Hi Heather_VUMC,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. Unfortunately, there's no direct way to convert a guest user with a different domain email address into a member. This limitation exists because guests and members have fundamentally different account structures. Guests are external users, while members are internal users within your organisation's domain.

Here's what you can do instead:

Remove Guest Access:

Go to the specific team in Microsoft Teams. Navigate to the "Manage team" options (usually accessible through a "..." menu or similar). Find the list of members and guests. Remove the guest accounts you want to convert to members. Re-invite as Members:

Once removed, you can invite them again using their email addresses associated with a domain your organisation can grant membership access to (e.g., their company email address if they have one). Additional Considerations:

If frequent collaboration occurs with external parties, consider using Shared Channels. This feature allows inviting people outside your organisation to collaborate on specific channels without granting full team access: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/shared-channels

    HI Furkaan,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I saw on an external website that you cannot invite guests with different email address as Members, but there were conflicting replies so I was unsure. Thank you for clarifying that and I will try these suggestions.

    Take care,

    Heather,
