Android Teams app ringer not coming through loudspeaker

Hi, Ive recently upgraded my phone from a Samsung s22 ultra to s24 ultra.

Since doing so, when receiving calls in Microsoft Teams, they do not use the phone loudspeaker so its hard to hear that someone is calling me.

Through a bit of trial and error, I have realised that by turning bluetooth off before any calls come through, this issue goes away. However, that is not practical. I shouldn't have to disable bluetooth to get Teams to function properly.

Does anyone else have any experience of this? Is Microsoft looking at a fix?

Thanks, Daniel

I had the same problem. I discovered that a permission in the Teams Android app is causing the problem. I was able to resolve the issue by disabling the permission for 'Nearby Devices'. When enabled, Teams will send the ringtone sound to a Bluetooth device.

Settings/Apps/Teams/Permissions/Turn off permissions for 'nearby devices'

I hope this works for you.

I have just found a workaround for this on the S24 Ultra.

Go to Settings --> Sound & Vibration --> Separate app sound

In there you can set up any apps to use a separate audio device. Weirdly, it seems to count the onboard phone as a separate audio device. So set up Teams to use 'phone' and voila, suddenly calls come through the loudspeaker.

I do wonder if this is by design. It is a bit of a weird setting and not seen it on previous Samsung phones.

Umar, thanks for replying but remember this is the Teams mobile app.

There is no 'Devices' option under 'Settings'. That only appears on the desktop app.

All other options had been checked. The issue is that Teams in this instance 'assumes' that there is a bluetooth headset or the like. Its clearly a bug in Teams and I think only affects Samsung devices.

Its frustrating because this issue has been prevalent on some devices for a couple of years and still appears to not be fixed.

I really wish Microsoft would sort this out.

    Thanks, Daniel

If you have a work profile, you'll prob need to discuss with your work. At the time of this issue, although I had a work profile, changing that setting resolved in both my work/personal profiles. I dont have a work profile now so I def wont have any separate work around.

Im pretty certain that that setting is relevant independent of profiles, but you may need to do further research yourself to be sure.

I have not turned off 'nearby devices'. This was not the fix for this issue.

See the solution I posted on March 4th. I really dont understand why people are replying to the original post with suggested fixes whilst ignoring the fix I posted myself.
