Are there any limitations on who can join a breakout room in a Teams Webinar (not a meeting) in terms of having a guest account? I know there are limitations around number of participants, but are there any other reasons this wouldn't work?

    Hello Jen Symes**,**

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft community.

As per your description, it seems like that you are looking for information on the limitations of breakout rooms in a Teams Webinar, specifically regarding guest users. While you are aware of participant limitations, you would like to confirm if guest users face any restrictions when attempting to join breakout rooms in a Teams Webinar.

    For your information:

There are no specific limitations mentioned about guest accounts joining breakout rooms in Teams Webinars in any Microsoft article.

However, it is important to note that the overall number of participants in a breakout room is limited to 300

Breakout rooms in Teams Webinars can be used if the webinar has fewer than 300 participants. If the number of participants increases to above 300, breakout rooms are not supported.

Breakout rooms can only be created in meetings that have fewer than 300 attendees. In addition, creating breakout rooms in a meeting automatically limits the number of meeting attendees to 300. Advise your end-users to not initiate breakout rooms in meetings where they expect more than 300 participants. For more information on large Team meetings, share the guidance Best practices for a large Teams meeting with your end-users.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Hi Nazmun,

we've tried all of those and sadly none of them work. We think it might be because they have Microsoft (free) account - which is different to a guest account, is that right? From looking at this article, this is what we are assuming it is: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/breakout-rooms-troubleshooting-guide-in-microsoft-teams-02eefaa2-f5ad-4075-9de1-79747c1cb463

Are there limitations on free accounts in Webinars breakout rooms, as well as meetings' breakout rooms? We assumed as Webinars are likely to be more public facing free accounts would be able to join.

    Thanks

    Jen

    HelloJen Symes,

Thanks for your response and query.

    • I have just tested assigning a guest user to a breakout room. And there was no obstacle adding the guest user.

However, you might face difficulties assigning the participant (guest user) depending on the option you have chosen as the event organizer.

    • May I ask, which option are you selecting from above?

If you are selecting "Automatically" and still unable to proceed to the next phase, then we need to go through another method.

    Appreciate your patience with us.

Looking forward to your response and have a great day ahead!!

    Sincerely

Hi Nazumn, thanks for your reply. However, we just tested setting up a Webinar and inviting a guest account to it and we were unable to assign them into a breakout room. Can you advise why this is?

    Thanks,

    Jen
