Creating restricted channels within a team for confidential discussions or projects
Hello,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
We appreciate your question on how to modify a channel in TEAMS from Private to Standard.
Unfortunately, you cannot convert a standard channel to a private channel or vice versa. If you need to change the channel type, you’ll need to create a new one.
- Open Microsoft Teams and navigate to the team where the channel is located.
- Click on the team name to access the team settings.
- In the team settings, select the “Channels” tab.
- Choose “Add channel” to create a new channel or modify an existing one.
- Fill in the necessary details for your channel:
- Name: Provide a descriptive name for the channel.
- Optional Description: You can add a brief description if needed.
- Channel Type: Here, you’ll choose to make your channel Standard.
- Click Save to create the new standard channel.
Please note the following important points:
- Standard channels are open to all team members, and anything posted is searchable by others.
- Private channels are for discussions that shouldn’t be open to all team members. You must be invited to join a private channel to view it within a team.
For more detailed instructions, you can also refer toStandard, private, or shared channels in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support.
Kind regards,
Lavenia
