Give me my Hotmail acc't BACK !!!

Wow !!  I screwed up by adding/changing  outlook.com to my hotmail acc't.    Where is the button to press to change things back !!!

So far I'm not prepared to tell all my friends that I have a  new address (15 years with the old is just fine). I just imagined that there would be an uninstall feature like may programs that I have.

My wife is now complaining.  "Where's my acc't?  I can't get into my hotmail acc't.  "Why do I have to open another folder to see my old messages??

Now I have 2 sets of emails. One for outlook .com and my old one Hotmail.com.

Everything is in a turmoil and I'm p.....  off.     My wife is NOT happy !!

Please tell me where the uninstall button is.

Thanks

Canada Dave (Toronto)

    Dave

    There is hope

Note: The following steps will currently only work if your previous account was @Hotmail.com or @Live.com.

In your browser, navigate to https://account.live.com/ManageAssocIds

Sign in with your new @outlook.com account.  (if you are already signed in with your outlook.com account this step will not apply)

Under “Other email addresses” click the Remove link below your previous address.

Click the Remove button to confirm the message.

You should now see a message on the page stating, “You've removed an email address from your Microsoft account.”

Navigate to https://account.live.com/ChangeId.aspx in your browser.

Verify that “Create a new email address” is selected.

In the New Microsoft account box, enter your previous address and select your previous domain (hotmail.com or live.com).  Note:  You must enter your previous address or the process will fail.

        Select the Save button.

Now you can use your original @hotmail.com or @live.com account to sign into your Microsoft services as you did before renaming to an Outlook.com account.  The @outlook.com address will now be an alias on your account from which you can still send and receive messages within Outlook or Hotmail.

Note: This applies to other domains as well, such as .jp, .kr, .es, .au, .ca etc.

Deleting my current email address is too risky. Can anyone help further? Microsoft support, can anyone help? So many people seem to be having these problems and will probably think about switching away from hotmail.....

With the pointers from other forum posters I found my solution. And there were none of the delete or cancel account selections involved with some non-Microsoft step-by-steps; less risk.

    1. Signed out of and cancelled all auto-logins for Windows Live, Windows Messenger; turned off my LastPass auto-logins
    2. Went to my Windows Live account page and changed the email address connected with my account from ******@outlook.com to ******@hotmail.com
    3. Outlook.com gear icon now showed a 'Switch back to Hotmail' selection. I chose it but it DID NOT make the switch the first time because an outlook.com feedback dialog box popped up and when I chose 'give feedback' it was unable to load the feedback form? And it did not switch to Hotmail?

So I clicked on the gear icon again and again selected 'Switch back to Hotmail.' This time I chose 'Skip feedback' and it switched back to Hotmail. Hooray.

When it switched to Hotmail it also dropped a yellow information bar saying Hotmail had been upgraded and to refresh. I refreshed and it switched to the outlook.com format? I went back to the gear and switched back to Hotmail again. This time I didn't get any drop-down information bar and my hotmail was back and my SkyDrive account was back (with 25GB of storage) and thank goodness all my files were there as well.

Microsoft must find a simpler way of linking all accounts to the (Windows Live) ID and should make sure all email accounts linked to that ID are displayed; Hotmail.com, Outlook.com, etc.

And Microsoft needs to find a way to transfer the existing SkyDrive account linked to Hotmail.com to the Outlook.com email address so people don't lose their files.

Thanks for everyone's feedback and help!

    Back again... thanks

    Dear MVP Community Moderator

I followed your instructions and came up with a problem.

I signed in with the new outlook acc't and clicked to remove the email address which was my own  hotmail acc't and NOT the outlook acc't. When I was about to REMOVE the acc't  this was the info given to me in the dialog box  "

    Remove an email address

Are you sure you want to remove ******@hotmail.com from your account?

If you remove this email address, you won't be able to use it to receive mail and you will lose your inbox. Additionally you will not be able to receive invitations, notifications, and alerts, or to be found through people search.

If I follow the instructions I may lose my acc't  .... forever??

    HELP  !!!

    Thanks

    Canada Dave(Toronto)
