same email prefix in hotmail and outlook

Ok, when Outlook.com first came out, I was an early adopter, and picked up the name ******@outlook.com (bob123 is not my real email handle).  I don't use this email address, just figured I'd reserve the name.

However, I have been using ******@hotmail.com for a few years now.

When I upgrade ******@hotmail.com to Outlook, what happens? Does it conflict with ******@outlook.com or what?  Do they merge, will I lose out on my email messages from ******@hotmail.com?

Is there a way I can rename the ******@outlook.com to ******@outlook.com just to ensure there isn't any naming/mail merge issues?

What happens when I get mail sent to ******@outlook.com or mail sent to ******@hotmail.com, do they go to the same inbox now or what?

Thanks!

Hi Visual_Deadlock,

In addition to what Ron Sommer said, please be informed that once you upgrade your account to Outlook.com, your email address will still be the same, so to be clear, your two email accounts will not merge because they are both in different account name.

All your contacts, emails, files, folders and even calendar will stay on your account. Outlook.com is just an interface, you won't lose any information/file if you upgraded to Outlook.com.

Regarding your concern with renaming your account, the Rename feature is currently not available. The Engineering team is aware of the problem and working to fix it. At this time, we don’t have a date when the feature will be restored.  We appreciate  your patience.

Assuming that you created a new account with an outlook.com address, did you use the account in the first 10 days?  If you did not use the account in the first 10 days, then the account is no longer active.

You also have to access an account with a browser al least every 270 days or the account will be marked as inactive.  Messages and contacts are deleted and the account will not receive emails.

When you upgrade to outlook.com, the email address does not change.  What changes is the look of the account when you access the account with a browser.  After upgrading the hotmail account, you would still have a hotmail account and you may have an outlook.com account.

If the outlook.com address was an alias, then it would still be an alias after upgrading the hotmail account.

Why censor it, it wasn't a real email address.  Anyways,  because of the censorship edit, to be clear, I used the same prefix for both hotmail and then outlook, but then found out about the upgrade, and wondering what happens if both are the same, do i lose my hotmail email messages or do they merge or what?
