Unfortunately, the message in the screen shot doesn't have anything to do with Outlook. That's a disk related issue. If you're seeing this icon with that message then Outlook isn't the cause.
There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type "file." are not supported
When Outlook receives an e-mail I get this error message. Any ideas why?

2013-01-13T16:41:16+00:00 Can you post a screenshot of the error message? It may be from Outlook or it may be from something else. Outlook has no reason to display such a message unless you've clicked on a link that begins with the file:// protocol.
Do you have any rules that may be triggering this?

2013-01-12T16:39:45+00:00 The file:// protocol is not cross-platform and is not really a protocol in the first place. For it to work you need to be connected to the same location as the sender and on the same platform (Mac or Windows).
Instead, use web-based server such as SharePoint or an online service such as DropBox. You can then share files via http://.
