Hotmail - Change security - waiting 30days

I have had issues with a two friends Hotmail accounts - where the email security is a nolonger a valid alternative email address !!!!!  and they have not entered or used their mobile number for a code. And cannot get to answer any security questions.

the 6 days skip have passed , and we managed to use an alternative email address , so they can now at least access their account and look at emails.

they had messages that they will get an email after 15/8/14 and with a different friends account today - that they will get an email after 30/8/14

They cannot change any security info - as it says, that MS is not ready yet

so what happens in 30 days - we just want to add the correct alternative email and also their mobile number , so if that happens in the future they can easily get a code ,and not rely on family email address that have changed in the last xxx years

just want to know what to expect next - and if they are going to be blocked out yet again

Or do I get them to change to gmail and just make a note of all the contact email address

having nothing but a lot of issues with Hotmail and outlook recently

thanks look forward to the replies

thanks for taking the time to reply

"   - The users will not got an email notification, but yes, they should update their security setting."

----  So now I'm confused again, surely there's a tutorial or guide for this .

----  When I  enabled them to continue to use their hotmail account email system , and start the 30day lockout - The MS message said that they WOULD get an email after 30 days

So now i dont know what to expect after the 30days - and thats all i want to know

    SO starting the question again

they are using their email now and are currently waiting for the 30 day lock out to expire which is due on the 30/8/14

SO now its the 1/9/14 - and for the first time after the lock out has expired they goto hotmail and they log into their hotmail account

    WHAT HAPPENS now

are they prompted to change the security settings - if not

do they get an email with instructions on what to do

very simply what happens exactly after the 30days !!!!

    Hi etafws,

I apologize for the confusion back there. You can inform your users that they will receive an email notification once the 30-day lockout period has been lifted. Once they have received the notification, they can immediately update their account information or even access the “Security & password”, “Recent activity” and “Alias” pages in the Account Summary page.

I hope these clarifies your query. And once again, apologies for the confusion.

    Regards,

    Francis S.

    Hi etafws,

We appreciate your time coming back to us.

The 30 days lock out period only happens when you change or update stale security proofs on the account. Once the lock out period is finish, you can change or edit your account's security information on the account. Once you've edit any account's security information, the 30 days lock out period will take place again.

This added security feature will protect your account for any hijackers who are attempting to hijack your account.

I hope I've answered your question. If you have other concern or question, don't hesitate to inform us and we'll be happy to assist you.

    Thanks!
