Some sent emails are stuck in OUtbox of Outlook.com android mobile app

I just found out why I haven't getting replies to some of my emails:  many of my sent emails over the past few weeks are sitting in my Outbox.  This would be in my Outlook.com mobile app on android.  I see no way to get them out of the outbox and sent.  not syncing or any other option available.  I am getting a message that I haven't been connected in a while, but that doesn't explain why I keep getting emails in my Inbox, and why only some emails don't get sent, and some emails are still in the outbox that are over two weeks old.

What should I do?  This is incredibly bad, if you think about it.   Do I move off of the Hotmail platform because it is proving to be unreliable?

I think I found the answer for my Droid.  The messages that pile up in the outbox are the ones that required a download of some attachment (photo, text, doc, etc) prior to sending.  If I forced the email in my inbox to fully load prior to forwarding or replying it sent just fine.  If it said that an attachment will be downloaded prior to sending it failed.

    Hope that helps.

OTHER USERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE READ THIS POST!!!!

The problem is a bug with the Outlook.com android app. There is an apparently easy interim fix that has been identified by other users with this issue in other help forums here. Do not uninstall/reinstall at least until you try this. You risk losing all of our unsent/outbox-stuck messages if you uninstall.

The problem seems to be that certain messages - apparently if you are offline (i.e. not wi-fi connected, etc.) (not *sure* of this, but other users have identified this as the source of the problem - go to the outbox and never get sent, even when back online. Then, all susbsequent messages sent queue up behind this message and also get stuck in the outbox, even if you are online.

(In my case, the "problem" messages also had attachments on both devices, but that may just be coincidence.)

But as other users have stumbled upon, if you go in and delete just the oldest message from the outbox, it seems to then fix the problem and all the emails get immediately sent. (Although on one device I had to delete the two oldest messages before this worked.)

But it seems VERY clear to me that this an app bug, and has nothing to do with configurations, operating system versions, etc. (See my next post, answering the moderator's query about by set-up, etc.)

    Good luck all!

OTHER USERS!!!!: PLEASE TRY THIS WORKAROUND FIRST!!!! DO NOT UNINSTALL/RESINSTALL UNTIL YOU HAVE AT LEAST TRIED THIS. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO AVOID LOSING ALL YOUR UNSENT OUTBOX MESSAGES, WHICH WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY HAPPEN IF YOU SIMPLY UNINSTALL.

Your "solution" - uninstalling  and reinstalling the app - will almost certainly mean the original messages stuck in the outbox are lost. Thanks for nothing.

And blaming this on users' configurations is ignoring the fact that app was working fine and *still* does for inbox. This is a problem with the Outlook app and you are pretending it isn't. Disgraceful.

I had similar problem with Outlook mail on my Android cell phone. The e-mails in the Outbox folder were NEVER sent even though I had good Wifi connection. Funny, after I failed to get e-mails stuck in the Outbox to send. I tried my GMail account to send the same files on my Android phone. Maybe for some ODD reason, the Wifi service only worked on GMail but not on Outlook App. Because I waited a few minutes, all the e-mail in my GMail account were sent out fine. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Outlook App was still stuck without sending the e-mail in the Outbox folder. Maybe the Wifi service just selectively prohibit Outlook from working, but allowing my GMail to work.

Also, since June 29, 2014, the Outlook App on my Android cell phone stops working. I tried un-installing and re-installing Outlook App on my Google Play on my Android phone. I also tried shutting and re-starting my cell phone. But nothing works.

I sent MANY MANY feedback messages on my cell phone pleading for help on this Outlook App problem. But apparently, Microsoft employee morale must be so low. They caught the winds of the 8,000 employee layoffs one month earlier than the official announcements. So they just chose to ignore NUMEROUS plead for help messages from me. It is so hard to search for the IT Support for Outlook App online. It makes me wonder why there are no IT Support contact info readily searchable. It took me almost one month to accidentally land on this forum that seems to be quite active.

Meanwhile, my Outlook App on my Google Nexus tablet works fine. This Outlook App problem ONLY exists in my Android cell phone.

I feel very frustrated. And I regret sticking with Outlook mail when I should be 100% using Gmail. I just become too lazy to change my e-mail contact on so many accounts that I registered with.

Is this a big sign telling me I should ditch Outlook e-mail and 100% embracing GMail?

    Hi gLyndond,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that the emails that you are trying to send are stuck in your Outbox folder. Let me assist you with this.

To begin with, this happens when your account went out of sync with the phone, or the mail server settings were not configured properly.

As an initial troubleshooting step, we recommend that you delete and then re-add your account again on your mobile device. For Exchange Active Sync configuration, you can refer to the link below for instructions on how to do it.

    Mobile Outlook.com

If the same issue persists, please uninstall the Outlook.com app that you are using as there might be some corrupted files or components that are causing the problem to happen and download its latest version.

Let us know how things turn out.

    Regards,

    Grace
