Important information about your email service
Hello,
In the next few weeks we’ll be making some updates that will impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live, or @msn email account. Those changes
will prevent your email from getting delivered to the Outlook desktop application you use. When you notice that you stop receiving messages, simply follow these two steps:
For Outlook 2003 customers:
1. Remove your email
account from your Outlook 2003 desktop application
--- ---
2. Re-add your email
account to your Outlook 2003 desktop application
For Outlook 2007 customers:
1. Remove your email
account from your Outlook 2007 desktop application
--- ---
2. Re-add your email
account to your Outlook 2007 desktop application
For Outlook 2010 customers:
1. Remove your email
account from your Outlook 2010 desktop application
--- ---
2. Re-add your email
account to your Outlook 2010 desktop application
When the update happens, you may not be able to refer back to this email in your Outlook desktop application. We recommend bookmarking or saving
the two links (remove and re-add) in steps 1 and 2 above that apply to the version of Outlook you’re using. Remember, you can always access this message by logging into your account at www.outlook.com at any time.
If you don’t know what version of Outlook you have, you can click
here for instructions to find out.
Thanks for your understanding and continued use.
Sincerely,
The Outlook team

As usual MS is f***king things up for the millions of us who are happy with what we have. My Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) is accessed through the Outlook 2007 desktop program using the Connector function. No problems until now. I can get access one of my accounts but not the other. Thank you MS for pushing me towards third party clients and eventually a Linux OS.

The update being rolled out in Preview, is the first of many innovations coming as Microsoft upgrades Outlook.com to a new Office 365-based infrastructure.

Firstly, I don't work for Microsoft and hence my response is not from a Microsoft representative.

However, in the interim and until an official response is posted, this is a legit e-mail and does not contain any dangerous or spurious links. It is a badly formed communication and I was surprised myself, being an IT professional in the Microsoft arena.

The services under the banner of Outlook.com as listed in the e-mail (outlook/hotmail/live/msn) are moving to the messaging part of Office 365. Microsoft will transfer your content as your content is already hosted by their service and you just access a copy of it from whatever device you are using (computer/tablet/phone etc.). What may change is the way that you access it, but it is likely to be similar to how it is currently set up. So your data won't suddenly get deleted, so don't panic.

I expect that better communication and instructions will be sent to everyone prior to their cutover. It is unlikely to all happen on the same date, but you should find that you are provided with something better than the outdated links that were added to that e-mail. As this will be a migration of your e-mail that will take place over a period of time, you won't be able to set up your device today as your e-mail won't yet be on the new platform, so it wouldn't work.

My advice is to keep an eye on your e-mail.

For more information about this change, you can read the following:

    Hope this helps.

    1) PLEASE, can't SOMEONE from Outlook tell us if this suspicious-looking email is legitimately from Outlook???!!!

"In the next few weeks we’ll be making some updates that will impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live, or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from getting delivered to the Outlook desktop application you use. When you notice that you stop receiving messages, simply follow these two steps: ..... etc." See full message above in question identified as "dp12345o asked on ."

    2) Where can a phone number be found to ask such critical questions???!!! Why can't Microsoft and Outlook make phone help and phone scam-potential reporting more readily available and more easily found? Your customer service rates a D- in ease of finding help, especially emergency phone help!
