I am trying to setup a phone number as an Account Aliases on my Microsoft Account.  But it never accepts the PIN that it texts you to verify the account.  I have tried several times.  And it never works.

Here are the steps I am taking:

When you click the add phone number box it asks you for your phone number:

It then sends you a pin:

I input the PIN and I get:

Any help is appreciated,

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

We understand the inconvenience caused and we will try our best to resolve the issue.

This issue might occur if the verification code, which you are trying to enter is wrong.

As per your query, I like to inform you that; if you can’t get a security code by text message or code is not correct, you can still use your phone number. When you add the number, choose the option to get an automated phone call instead.

For more information, refer to the below link:

Hope it helps, reply to us with the status of your issue. We will be happy to assist you.

I am having exactly the same issue as described in the intial post.  However, the link you, Santosh, subsequently provided (quoted above), relates to account security, NOT account aliases.

Please, we need help with account alias additions, specifically, phone numbers.

I have one account where I was able to add a phone number as an account alias.  However, on another account I am not able to add a phone number as alias, receiving the same error message as that described in the initial post.

FYI...I tried again today and this still does not work.  It does not except the text code as described above.

    Regards,

    Eric

    Santosh,

There is no option to select to have an automated phone call.  As Skye_S said the link you provided is for account security not Aliases.  You get to Aliases by:

    1. Log In to your Microsoft Account
    2. Select Your Info from the menu header bar.
    3. Click Manage your Sign-In email or Phone Number
    4. Click Add Phone Number

There is no option here to be called.  Only the texting of the code.

    Thanks,

    Eric
