Control Panel Mail icon not working

Hi,

Have a few PC's where the Mail icon in Control Panel is present, but clicking it does nothing.  Affecting both 32 and 64 bit installations of Office 2013.

Have attempted to perform an Online and Quick Repair - no improvement.

Have checked for the existence of the mlcfg32.cpl and/or mlcfg64.cpl files on my PC and neither exist.  All PC's are running Windows 7 (64 bit).

Any assistance appreciated as I need to add Exchange accounts to existing profiles and it won't let me do this from inside Outlook.

Regards

paul

    Hi All,

I want to inform you that we are definitely looking into this issue. It is currently being investigated, and we will update you as soon as we have a possible resolution for this issue. As a workaround, please use “outlook.exe /profiles ” to create or edit the profiles for the time being.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue, and do appreciate your patience and understanding. And this thread will be closed for further posting as this allow other customers who are having the same issue to identify the information easily. I am experiencing the same thing on three different clients PCs.  Uninstall and reinstall did not resolve.

One user has Office 365 one user has Office Home and Business 2013.  Appears to have been broken with the June update.

    FYI my mlcfg32.cpl lives under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15

Yeah I just discovered another O365 client with the same issue.

I suspected it was a broken update too, hopefully a fix is imminent.  I have a client mid O365 migration that this is causing major issues with.

    Hi Monique,

This is an Office 365 Pro Plus installation (part of my E3 Enterprise subscription).   Haven't tried reinstalling, isn't that partly what an "online repair" does?

Already tried the SaRA tool without success.

Screen snip of error when I attempt to add another Exchange account to my profile - using Outlook's File | Account Settings to create the account.  Only way I can do this is using the Mail icon in the Control Panel - which I cannot access.

Isn't there an easy way just to manually re-instate the Mail icon in Control Panel?

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I’d like to confirm the following information to help you narrow down the issue:

    1. By saying “it won't let me do this from inside Outlook”, could you provide a screenshot of the symptom?

To upload the screenshots in the forum, please click Insert image> Choose File> Upload.

    1. Is your Outlook a part of Office 365 installation? If so, please uninstall Office 2013 from your PC. Then, you can re-install Office using Office 365 for Business to check if you're able to add a new account from Mail icon.
    2. If you are using an Office 365 account, you can try using the SaRA tool to diagnose and fix some issues as the article below: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/wiki/msoffice\_outlook-mso\_win10/microsoft-support-and-recovery-assistant-for/29323f9a-899b-4d08-b21d-ca697c7594c0

    Regards,

    Monique
