I can add Outlook.com to my iphone and ipad just fine by using the wizard but when I try to add it to my desktop Mail account, it goes to POP by default and when I try to change it to an Exchange account, I get error messages.

It is a very late answer but if your Outlook.com account has been migrated to the Exchange infrastructure, you can now.

    • Go to System Preferences->Internet Accounts
    • Click the + sign at the bottom of the left hand side of the window and click on Exchange.
    • Type your email address and password and click on "Sign In". It will give you a message saying "Unable to verify account name or password". Ignore it and click "Next".
    • On both the Internal URL and External URL fields, type "http://outlook.com" without the quotes and click on "Sign In".
    • Confirm which features you want to sync (Mail, Contacts, Calendar, reminders, Notes) and click on "Done".

As of today, 11/15/2016, it seems you can only add only one Outlook account as an Exchange account on OS X 10.12.1.

There is no way to do this directly in the Mac mail client as that client doesn't support the EAS protocol used by Outlook.com, but you can try a 3rd party solution here - http://fluentfactory.com/mboxmail-for-mac/.

Eugine, how will Mac or Apple support solve the problem of Hotmail not supporting standard mail protocols?

    Hi Sid_S,

I apologize for the inconvenience. For this kind of concern and how to configure your Mac mail client, you can contact Mac Support.

    Thanks!

Why don't you support the many protocols that the Mac Mail client DOES support? IMAP? Exchange? POP3?
