OneDrive installation on multiple RDS-Hosts

Dear Microsoft community,

We have the issue that OneDrive cannot be installed on our remote desktop hosts due to the following error message:
It says that "Your OneDrive folder cannot be created in the selected location."

Environment:

2 RDS Hosts Windows Server 2019

1 RDS Gateway with load balancing functions, etc. Also Windows Server 2019 (the user profiles are also located here as VHDs on a separate partition).

The path C:\Users...\OneDrive should therefore be on the gateway server and not locally.

Is it even possible to operate OneDrive via VHD from another server or is that not possible at all?

I've read a post about this before, but it was only about a single RDS host and was solved with an extra partition.
Unfortunately, this solution would not be possible for us because we operate several RDS hosts.

Many thanks in advance for your help and tips, and if more information or screenshots would be useful, I'd be able to provide them.

Regards, Johannes

    Hello @Johannes Meditz ,

Thanks for your query. It seems not possible to operate OneDrive via VHD from another server. OneDrive does not support concurrent or multiple connections using the same container.

    Reference:

    Best regards,
    Leila

Might have another option for you...

After trying to exclude the OneDrive folder from the VHD via the GUI, it became apparent the GUI doesn't support folder names with spaces in, so was unable to do it this way.
I then tried using powershell (very cumbersome) and couldn't get that to work either.

So, as I could not exclude the OneDrive folder using RDSH VHDs, I have instead deployed FSLogix Profile Containers......
    OneDrive now works perfectly :)

This may not be practical for you if you have a large VHD reliant production environment, but could get you to where you need to be.

    Many thanks
    James
