Outlook 2016 / Exchange Online -- Inbox renamed to Archive

My tenant  user are starting to find their Exchange Online Outlook Inboxes renamed to Archive.  This appears to be occurring across their devices except those who use the iOS standard email app on the Apple devices.  I do not believe that the advisory EX103974   is covering that as the language is still correct for those users.

    Hi Yleclerc- [O365],

Since the issue has been resolved by resetting folder name , it’s hard to find out the root cause. Many factors could cause the issue. For example, user did some operation such as change the language outlook Web App or others. Or this could be a temporary issue.

The fix doesn’t require a high level of technical. You can share the method to your user.

For the time being, I suggest you keep monitoring it.  If the issue happens again, feel free to post back. Thank you for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Amanda

Had this issue today.  User thinks it started May 30th.  I closed Outlook and reopened using the /resetfoldernames switch and everything was back to normal.

    SMatinPA

This was it.  He is now back to normal.

Now, why did this happen?  What is the cause?  How can I prevent this from happing again?

I have 53 users in my tenant which 40 of these are with salesmen that are constantly traveling.  They do not come into our offices so I need to remote support them.

    Hi Yleclerc- [O365],

To trouble this issue, I suggest you try the  following methods:

    1. Manually change the Archive folder name back to Inbox to see if the issue can be resolved.
    2. If not, I suggest you rename the folder via MFCMAPI, please refer to the Manually renaming the folders via MFCMAPI part of the  this article: https://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/renamedefaultfolders.htm .
    3. How did you find the Inbox folder name change to Archive? Do you have an Archive folder in your Office 365 mailbox before the issue happens?
    4. If you disconnect all mail clients of your account except for OWA, does this issue still occur?

    Thanks,

    Amanda
