In my email account settings, there is a check box "require logn using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)". I don't understand when I should be checking this box. I've left it both checked and unchecked and the email works. What's the purpose of this option and when should it be used?

Hi Tjgarland,

SPA is an protocol used to authenticate Microsoft email clients and based on NTLM authentication method. You need to check this box if your email provider requires it, otherwise you can leave it uncheck. Your account can still be protected if you have SSL/ TLS enabled. Feel free to let me know if there is anything unclear.

Regards,

Leo
