Boycott Microsoft and dont make any purchases untill they remove 30 day wait period.

I decided to updated my security settings because I was about to purchase a game through Microsoft store which I never have used before because I have Steam. Now I cant purchase anything because of the 30 day wait policy. How is this good marketing? Now I refuse to purchase Sea of Thieves that otherwise I would have per-ordered to get the bonus on PC.

I honestly cant understand how Microsoft is still in business, if they didn't have a monopoly on the OS market I bet anything they would have been long gone by now because of their management/marketing shenanigans. Boycott Microsoft store and let them know there are better ways of securing their site without a 30 day wait period.

I will Spread the word on all of my Social media plat-forums and hopefully you all will do that same.

The 30 day policy is there for everyone's protection. It is to help verify that you are indeed who you say you are to make the change.

Do you have two factor authentication turned on?

Hi Solar-Eclipse. I understand (and support) that. But the bottom line is that huge companies should not think that they can over-ride the law, surely?

I mean my Bank doesn't make you wait 30 days to change something. LOL.

In the UK there are 'Distance Selling" laws that cover eg good bought over the internet. They protect the purchaser and the seller is legally prohibited from applying unfair rules.

Have you similar legislation in your country (state if in the US)?

I've made security updates to my Microsoft account in the past and have never had a 30 day waiting period.

Obviously something you did (or don't have in place) has caused Microsoft to place that restriction on your account. Maybe what you need is additional security options (https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/basic). I have 2 emails and 2 phone numbers on mine.

    It's worth a shot.

    Good luck!

Having a few accounts saved with a 30 day wait period is STILL a terrible policy and as I said before there are other ways for proving who I am IE, through phone verification. I cant do anything else to my account until the 30 days is up. Terrible policy for what I am sure amounts to fractions of saved accounts versus accounts that aren't. Give me a number of the amount of accounts that are actually saved by having this ludicrous policy other wise Microsoft will not get my support, especially through their sales.
