How to close original message once replied or forwarded in Hotmail?

I am asking again in case someone else reads this message and can help me.

Somehow, from one day to the next, I open an email, reply to it and when it is sent, it goes back to the original messages I had opened instead of the inbox as it was before.

I am unable to use the information received to change that is, because it seems it is available on older versions of Hotmail/Outlook, not this new one.

Is there a way to go back to a previous version of Hotmail which actually worked perfectly?  This is so annoying!

FYI, I open Chrome, then Hotmail.

Please help!!!! and thanks in advance for taking the time to help. Technologically-challenged

If I understand the problem correctly - when you send a reply to a message, you return to that message in the inbox. That is expected behavior.

If you move or delete messages, you can tell Outlook.com what to do next - those settings are at https://outlook.live.com/mail/options/mail/layout - near the bottom. But that only applies when you move or delete a message.

For the short term, this link may bring up the old interface: https://outlook.live.com/owa/?path=/classic but it will be disabled 'soon'.

The expected behaviour is supposed to go back to the inbox, not to the open message that you just responded/replied/forwarded!  That is what I am trying to achieve again -- it changed sometime last week and I am unable to go back to just the inbox list.

Per the link provided above, there is nothing that allows messages to close and go back to inbox!

Mrs. Poremsky offered to find out the solution to my problem, that is why I am asking again...

Can you help me with this or is there a way to contact Outlook directly to get them to explain what and why they changed the settings without warning?

Many thanks in advance, from a Technologically-challenged user

You are opening the message in a new window, not in the reading pane? That message is closing here after I reply. Test it in a private or incognito browser session - if it works in a private browser, empty the browser cache.

I am sorry, Mrs. Poremsky, I have no idea what you mean by this paragraph above.  Could you please give me steps for this?

Thanks again for your help and patience. a

You can use the ? to contact outlook.com support -type in a question then 'Still need help? Yes' button when none of the responses answer your question.
