Outlook keeps sending safe senders to the SPAMBOX

I found a thread from 2013 on this exact same issue.   Just this week, a friend who I have been emailing for years to the same email address have been finding her email going to the SPAMBOX.  I didn't know it for several days, but now after doing some digging, this is what is happening.  I can't see any setting to TELL Outlook that this is a SAFE SENDER anymore, guess they changed that at some point.  So, I created a special rule to route her emails to my INBOX but that is not a fix.  I should not have to create a special rule to tell Outlook that her email is safe.  It is a gmail account and the odd thing is another friend that is also usually in the same emails also has a gmail account and I am getting her emails just fine.

What gives Microsoft????  You guys made a change earlier this week that is mucking things up big time!!!

    Brian,

I didn't create the folder either and nothing has changed. I have Outlook.com, Windows 10 mail app, and the Android Outlook mail app. I do also sync Outlook.com contacts via an Exchange ActiveSync connection to my phone. Another thread suggested this was from the Samsung Mail app (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ee0bc4e3-5214-4e1c-bb25-922158aff540/quotspamboxquot-folder-in-outlook?forum=exchangesvrsecuremessaging).  I do have a Samsung and that technically utilizes the Exchange ActiveSync connection but I do not sync email. So the thread above doesn't really apply.

I have confirmed that I have no rules or sweep that would do this.  I also confirmed that the offending email address was listed in my Outlook.com safe sender's list.

I decided to remove my ActiveSync connection from my phone.  Email still went to the SPAMBOX folder.  Next, I deleted the SPAMBOX folder and then removed it from my deleted items folder.  I then reconnected my ActiveSync connection on my phone.  Now the original offending email account has no folder to send the email to so it stays in the Inbox.  I guess this means it's fixed but I have no idea where the SPAMBOX folder or whether or not it will come back.

I can assure you I did not create that folder "SPAMBOX". This is something new added by Microsoft.

I am using Outlook 2013 desktop version most of the time.  All of my emails are managed through Outlook 2013 and have been for many years.

And, just fyi- there is still a Junk folder.  There is email going to both folders, but the 1 person in particular is ALWAYS being routed to the SPAMBOX.  I'm tempted to delete this folder, have this person send another email and see what happens.

    Very aggravating! ! ! ! !

Outlook.com doesn't have a folder named "SPAMBOX". WHat are you really using?

That's interesting.  I'm using outlook.com with and @outlook.com address.  I primarily access via https://outlook.com, the Android "Microsoft Outlook" app, and occasionally through Windows 10 Mail app.

Outlook.com and Outlook for the desktop have a folder named "Junk Email" for the delivery location of junk mail. If you see "SPAMBOX", then something other than Outlook created it, unless you created it and have a rule that moves messages there.
