Microsoft 365 Outlook 2016 IMAP settings, calendar and sync issues

I am using Microsoft 365 business Outlook 2016 for emails.  My emails are synced over all my devices and work well, however, I cannot get my calendar or contacts to sync which is frustrating.  I have been told by our domain host that in order to get emails to sync, we need to use IMAP settings, but I see from this community post, that IMAP settings do not allow calendar/contact syncing?

    Hi Donna Jackson4,

Welcome to post your concern in community.

Yes, you're right. The truth is that IMAP protocol doesn't support sync calendars, that's the limitation of this protocol.

If you add an IMAP account as your first account then a default Calendar folder is created in the IMAP store which of course is only a local copy. And you will notice "This computer only" when you check this calendar in Outlook Calendar view. For full Calendar synching and related features, you'll need an Exchange account such as Outlook.com (free) or Office 365. The Exchange accounts support sync all data automatically, your information is always up to date in Outlook and on the server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server. You can refer to this KB to know the limitations of different type of accounts on Outlook: Sync basics - what you can and cannot sync

If you're using Gmail accounts, to keep imported calendar up-to-date, you can subscribe Google Calendar in Outlook. Please check this KB: See your Google Calendar in Outlook

Feel free to contact if you have any further concerns or need more help, we're always glad to share our experience with you :)

    Best Regards,

    Shawn

    Hi Shawn

Our domain host company have confirmed that they do not support calendars or contacts, just email.  I have asked our IT guy for help, but he is unsure himself, so is looking into it

    Hi Donna Jackson,

I reviewed your original thread again, noticed that you were using Office 365 Outlook for Business, then you organization should have bought Office 365 Business service. If you're not using O365 Business, you should be able to use Exchange service. I suggest you contact with your IT admin to confirm what O365 plan you're using now. For Outlook client, if you want use Exchange service, you can also Outlook.com accounts, you can find its info in the Sync Basic I mentioned before.

    Best Regards,

    Shawn

    Hi Shawn

Thank you so much for your reply.  We are using a domain email, and our domain host gave us the IMAP settings info.

Can I use Mircrosoft exchange server for a business email address?
