503 Errors in Outlook Android app

Hi All,

We are encountering an issue with the Outlook Android app not being able to connect to our Exchange server through ActiveSync. We receive a 503 error, but only with some users, others can connect just fine. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to which users can and cannot connect.

Our other ActiveSync mobile clients are not having any issues. Using the credentials of a known non-working users an EAS connection can be setup using gmail on Android, as well as the mail app on iOS.

We are running exchange 2016 on a 2012 R2 server.

I have tried tinkering with the default throttling settings:

setting easmaxburst to 600000

setting easmaxconcurrency to 100

setting discoverymaxconcurrency to 10

We have passed the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyser Exchange ActiveSync Autodiscover test with the credentials of a known problematic user.

Has anybody else been encountering this issue, or have any tips?

Thanks

Edit - Just tested Outlook on iOS and was not able to log in there either.

I have this issue to. Symptoms are:

    • old clients working fine,
    • can't add new ones in Android or iOS,
    • on old working Outlook clients can't add second account

On Android I found little workaround: on APKMirror I try to find from what version problem started to me, and after digging for a some hours I found that last working version for me was: 4.0.65 from November 8, 2019. Next version: 4.0.67 - error 503 after long logon.

What is interesting - after setup successfuly exchange account on ver 4.0.65 I did update on Play Store to last version and its working fine, but you can't add new account.

So in my case change since ver 4.067 broke my setup.

    Dear all,

It is useless to say I have this issue also...

While my IT colleagues haven't found a way to solve it, I think we managed to do it somehow.

It is not really hard and we don't know if will appear again, but still is a solution.

Our issue was that after changing domain password on our computers, M. Outlook (android version) requested update on password.

This is where we encounter the error "Unable to login The service is currently unavailable. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact customer service. (503)"

    Our workaround was as follows:

We uninstalled M. Outlook, searched older versions on third party app market (we used apkmirror) and tried several of them. We found that version dated August 31 2019, version 4.0.0, was the winner one.

We do realize that installing apps from markets other than Google Play may look inappropriate and uncomfortable for some people, yet it does work fine for this situation.

We managed, using the above version to reconnect our mobile Outlook to the Exchange server and, after finishing synchronization, we let Google Play to update the installed app to the latest version.

In my opinion, the version downloaded can work fine without updating it, but each user is free to decide.

It is obvious that, by doing this, the latest version of Android M. Outlook has a problem, especially with Exchange.

I do hope that the above helps, at least for some time... business is business and sometimes is better to get your mails on time...

All the best to you all,

got the same problem - had to change user passwords due to company policy. After 60 "seconds trying to connect" error 503 occurs.

Using other Android mail apps works fine.
