When i try to sign in to my outlook email I get the confirmation code in both my mobile messages app and WhatsApp, does Microsoft contact their users via WhatsApp using random phone numbers like the number with which i received the confirmation code (an Indonesian number)? if not does that mean that my phone is hacked?

    Thank you for your reply.

How did you sign in to your email account? Can you post the link that you used?

    Hi ,

I’m Mel, an Outlook.com user, and Independent Advisor. I'd be glad to help.

Microsoft will only text you using your registered phone number, and the text can only have the following information:

    1. A text with a help link.
    2. A text with a security code.

For more information, please click the link below:

If you have set your mobile number to the Whatsapp app, the app may have just synced the text message received to your phone number.

    Did you used the code?

Did you turn on the two-step verification feature of your Microsoft account?

Feel free to post back. We'd be glad to assist you further.

    All the best,

    Mel

    Thanks again for your reply.

If you received the security code to your default text messaging app right after you signed in to your account, you may be receiving a legit text message from Microsoft, and what you're seeing on the WhatsApp might be just a glitch or a setting on the app itself.

Rest assured that your account is safe since you already turned on the two-step verification and changed your account password.

Let us know if you have further concerns.

    Kind regards,

    Mel
