Outlook for Mac changes iPhone appointments to UTC time zone

When an appointment from iCal on an iOS device is created, when it syncs to Outlook for Mac the appointment shows up in UTC time. If I create the appointment on the Mac using Outlook the appointment creates just fine. Outlook for Mac is 16.41, Mac Catalina 10.15.6. Any ideas other than deleting the appointment and recreating on Outlook for Mac (which is the only way I've found to deal with it) when I need to modify a meeting time?

    Hi Betty,

I've checked time zones in all devices, all devices and software up to date. Seems I'd be able to tell Outlook, simply, that I want events displayed in terms of my own time zone. The fact it's changing my calendar events to display UTC times apropos of nothing seems like a bug to me. I'll look into re-initiating the issue as you've suggested, thank you.

Thanks for your quick reply, Betty. Here's a screenshot of the issue. My setup is the iPhone's Calendar app, and a Macbook Pro with Outlook for Mac 365. That's the setup I'd like to continue using, and am not interested in adding Outlook app on the iPhone. Events created on the iPhone display properly there, but as you can see get corrupted by UTC time on the Macbook's Outlook. And to answer #2, yes indeed, events created on Macbook's Outlook display fine on both devices. Timezone is correct on the exchange server, it's a local college.

HI Betty, thanks again for your attentiveness. I'm sorry, I don't use a mail website for calendaring, just the iPhone and Macbook Pro laptop. And I did create a new profile, however, it appears I'd have to start from scratch to sync and test that with my iPhone -- knowing how complicated and time-consuming it's been to get to the point where I can fairly reliably get the two to sync with one another, I'm not thinking that'd be wise.

It's the particular instance when I create an event on my iPhone calendar app, then attempt to edit it on Outlook for Mac on the laptop. For whatever reason it eschews the set time and selected time zone -- on both devices -- in order to convert to UTC time, which makes it very difficult to translate and modify if the meeting time or date has changed.

It baffles me why Outlook would ever display a different time zone than the one I have set, unless I specifically requested it do so. Since I don't deal worldwide in business or personal matters, I can't think of a situation where I'd ever want Outlook to modify my appointment's time zone settings, so am not sure why it does so.

    Hi SeanDonovan2,

Thanks for your feedback, may I know if the phenomenon also appears in your mail website? Or just occurs in Outlook for Mac, so that we can figure out if the problem occurs when syncing from iCal to your calendar service, or syncing from calendar service to Outlook for Mac.

In addition, have you tried my previous suggestions? If not, please also take a try and let me know the outcome. If problem only occurs in Outlook for Mac rather than your mail website, then we recommend you could also try to create a new profile. Any update is appreciated.

Note: Don't remove previous profile before creating new profile.

    Kind Regards,

    Betty

    Hi SeanDonovan2,

Glad to help you here. From your description, the time zone in your iOS device is the same as the one in your Mac device, but after the appointment on the iOS device syncs to Mac device, the time zone changes, right? If so, to figure out what might be the root cause, I recommend you go to the related mail website(If using Microsoft 365 for Business account, go to Outlook Web App)to check if the time zone is correct. In addition, regarding the issue is related to time zone, you are also recommended to reset your iOS device and Mac’s time zone and view if it makes any difference.

Furthermore, in general, this kind of issue won’t appear when syncing calendar between different devices, you might also re-configure account in the two devices and view if the syncing process could work well then.

If you have further concern, could you offer me below information for further analysis?

    1. Screenshot of the contrast calendar pages.
    2. When you create an appointment in Outlook for Mac, it could sync to iOS device without problem, right?
    3. If you download Outlook for iOS in your iOS device, then add account and create related appointment, can it sync to Outlook for Mac well?

    Kind Regards,

    Betty
