Access an outlook.com email Account from Outlook 2019 using POP3

HI

I am trying to set up OUTLOOK 2019 to access an outlook.com email account using POP3

The settings I am using are

Incoming mail

Server outlook.office365.com  port 995 TLS

Outgoing SMTP

server SMTP.office365.com   port 587  STARTTLS

It gets as far as asking for the password in Outlook 2019 and stops

I have changed outlook.com to allow access to pop3 and delete.

Any Ideas?

The reason for the pop3 is that I use this machine to store all my emails and delete them from the providers server after a few days. My tablets and phone use Imap and do not have to store the gigabytes of stuff on my desktop

The problem was two factor authentication which requires a second password set up in My Account for Apps

    Sorry for the confusion.

The contents of one of the links had the two factor stuff in it.

By the way, I have no idea why your method for the output SMTP works.

Anyhow, problem solved - it just took all day and it was wet and windy  and cold here today so nothing much lost - especially at my age :)

Thanks for your help - without you I would not have gone anywhere near Microsoft but the guy was pretty helpful in the chat session. Their AI was useless.

    Cheers

You can ignore my previous post since I just noticed the edit to your previous post.

The one thing I missed was asking you if you had 2 factor authentication enabled which requires an app password.

Not quite sure what you mean by "Answer above" (there is nothing above) and marking a simple request to post back after you've gotten a response from Microsoft Support as "not resolving the issue".

We're all just users trying to help other users.

    Hi Karl

Got in touch with a very helpful guy Rhey in Microsoft Support who sent me these two links.

POP and IMAP email settings for Outlook

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/pop-and-imap-email-settings-for-outlook-8361e398-8af4-4e97-b147-6c6c4ac95353

I set up everything as per these two pieces of documentation.

My problem was two factor authentication .

Normally it comes up on the smart phone but with  Apps like Outlook one has to go into one's Microsoft Account and set up an App Password.

That is the password one puts into the standard Outlook pop-up box.

    Cheers
