Is it possible to use Outlook.com without a 365 account?

Hello,

I am signed in to my Microsoft account and there appears to be no way to use Outlook.com.  We are not using 365 at my company and I suspect Outlook.com is only for people who subscribe to 365.  Is this true?

I have recently been told by Zoho CRM that as of April 2021, Zoho plugin for outlook will no longer be available and I am trying to figure out a way to continue to work with Zoho.

My Outlook account works with Mail, which is know is separate from Outlook.  But I can't see my Outlook emails, calendar or task list on Outlook.live or Outlook.com and maybe I just don't understand it.  I guess I either have to convince my company to buy 365 or find a new CRM by April.

So, when I log in to Outlook.live.com, it looks like it's the first day I've had this computer and there is nothing there.  None of my emails, nothing on the calendar, nothing.  I have tried to find any kind of help to explain how this works, but there doesn't seem to be any support at all.  I keep getting the same garbage from the virtual assistant explaining how to enter my password.

Is there any way that I can use Outlook.com when I only have a normal Outlook account?

Thanks.

Hi. I'm Brian, an Independent Advisor.

Outlook.com remains free for anyone. You can have an address ending in @outlook.com or @hotmail.com. There are some limitations (15 GB mailbox, for example), but otherwise, no issues.

Zoho is unrelated to Outlook.com, though, so I don't understand how that ties in for you. Can you explain? Zoho is a mail service similar to Outlok.com. You won't see Zoho mail at Outlook.com because they're completely separate services.

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for your quick response.  Sorry for being unclear, I am extremely frustrated at the moment.

I am currently integrating my Outlook contacts and Calendar to Zoho CRM through an Outlook plugin.  (We use Zoho One and our CRM, ordering system, expenses, etc are all synched.)  I have recently been having issues with the Outlook plugin overriding information in Zoho CRM, although I have it set so that CRM should win any conflict.  Zoho is unable to figure out the issue, but they have informed me that the Outlook Plugin will be disabled anyway in April 2021 and I should switch to their 365 integration.

My company does not use 365 and I have no control over telling the IT department what version of Office or Outlook to use.  I explained this to Zoho.  They insisted I could use the 365 integration so I asked them to show me this in a screen share.  Of course, this was not successful.

During the course of this screen share, the technician had me sign on to my Microsoft Outlook account and outlook.live email where he claimed that because my emails and contacts and calendar are not syncing there, the Zoho sync won't work.  And this is where I became confused.  I did not think the Outlook exchange server that my company has is related to Outlook.com, but I could also see no way to add it as an account there.  So, if I use Gmail, I can add my exchange account there.  But I don't see how I can add my work Outlook account to Outlook.com and the technician was telling me it should already be there, they are the same.  So I am completely confused about this.

I am simply looking for a way to continue syncing my Outlook contacts and calendar with Zoho CRM, but apparently after April 2021, this will no longer be possible.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Brian,

Thank you so much for your help.  I am just getting the time to read the article you sent as we are in the pharma industry and we are quite swamped at the moment.  It is not a good time for us to have issues linking Outlook and CRM.

Many of the user comments after the article are echoing what I have been experiencing and saying to Zoho, so at least I feel less incompetent.  It isn't that I am doing it wrong, it seems that things are just not working. And it seems that unless we have Outlook 365, there will be no feasible way to sync Outlook contacts and events with Zoho in the near future.  Not good news for them.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Alison

You are correct. Outlook.com, while being Exchange, is totally different from the on-prem Exchange server your company runs. You cannot add your personal Microsoft account to the company's Exchange service.

Unfortunately I'm unfamiliar with Zoho's CRM offering, although I have an address with them. I did take some time to read several of the Zoho CRM articles they have and the article that says the Zoho CRM plug-in's end-of-life is March 31, 2021 also they have an Outlook add-in (not plug-in, although I'm not sure of the difference) you can use instead. They also mention Office 365 integration that the Office 365 administrator must install. I'd try the add-in.

Here's the end-of-like article that mentions both and compares them: https://help.zoho.com/portal/en/community/topic...
