How to get into child’s hotmail account

Hello,

Last year I set up email accounts for my children aged 2 & 5 with view of sending things to them for later in life. They clearly do not use email yet and where i thought I knew the password for their accounts I dont and I can find out how to change them. They are set up on my family account and where I try logging into their specific acoount and requesting reset password it doesnt work as i dont have enough information on the account as they havent sent any emails for me to verify. Please can someone assist with changing passwords to accounts that have effectively never been used.

    Hello Katydach

First, you are not likely going to be happy with the answer to your question but it's the only one that applies.

Second, just so there is no misunderstanding, this is a public end user-to-user support forum. We're users just like you helping other users. We don't work for Microsoft and have no access to any user account so there is nothing we can do from within the forum. We have no input on Microsoft's policies and procedures.

In short, the only way to recover an email account is via the Microsoft Account Recovery form and if that fails, then the account is effectively lost. However, if the account was not accessed within the last year but within the last 2 years, you need to access the account with the original password. The Account Recovery form can't be used.

A couple of other things you should be aware of regarding Outlook.com accounts

#1 - Any account not accessed within the past year will have all data removed due to inactivity

#2 - Any account not accessed within the past two years will be automatically deleted due to inactivity as per the MS Activity policy

Purely as a FYI for future reference since from your description, this will be of no value in the current instance, the account recover process is described in the following article under the section of

<What if you can’t prove you own the account?>

Reset or recover your Microsoft account

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17875/...

*** the most important item to take note of is the first paragraph

To protect privacy, support advocates can’t see your account details or unlock accounts. Only you can recover your account. If you are not able to successfully recover your account, the alternatives are to:

    1. Try to regain access to one of the alternate email accounts or phone numbers associated with your account and then complete the password reset flow.
    • If you can’t access your alternate email, then try to recover that first on the email provider’s site (example: Gmail or Yahoo mail).
    • If someone else can access the phone number associated with the account, please reach out to them so they can give you the security code.
    1. Create a new account

Thank you very much for your response, you are right I dont like it but it will save me time and effort in trying to get in now as in theory I hold all the detail (bar password) but still cant get in. I think I will wait it out, hope the emails get deleted and then set them up again! So much for trying to be organised!

    Thanks again!
