Turning off autocomplete in outlook

Microsoft have this very annoying tendency to push features onto us and make it very hard to turn them off.

Each time I type in outlook there are grayed out suggestions for the rest of the sentence and then there are small pops ups asking if these suggestions were helpful and asking for comments. How do I permanently disable this so called smart technology. I am not a labelling machine and I don´t appreciate my emails being read by default.

Hi SovannLinden, hope you're doing well. I’m Ian, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you.

I'm sorry to hear about this issue.

If you are using Outlook desktop client, please follow steps below.

1, Select "Options" from the File menu.

    1. Select the "Mail" tab, and then click the "Editor Options" button.

3.Click the "Advanced" tab, and then clear the check mark from "Show AutoComplete Suggestions."

    1. Click Ok

For Outlook on the web, to turn off text predictions:

    1. At the top of the page, select Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Compose and reply.
    2. Under Text predictions, clear the “Suggest words or phrases as I type” check box.

    Hi Ian,

Many thanks for your helpful reply.

For fellow users with outlook web, I would add:

For Outlook on the web, to turn off text predictions:

    1. At the top of the page, select Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Compose and reply.
    2. Under Text predictions, clear the “Suggest words or phrases as I type” check box.
    3. Under Suggested replies, clear all boxes
    4. Under Quick suggestions. clear all boxes
    5. Under Microsoft Editor, at the very bottom, click on Microsoft Editor settings, a pop-up will appear and grey out Text predictions
    6. Make sure to save your changes
    7. Monitor to see if autocomplete, surveys are still not pushed back on you as Outlook gets automatically updated.

It remains to be seen if there is a single way to opt out of all smart technology.
