Why am I being threatened by different users at btconnect telling me to update my microsoft account. How can I stop them. They want me to click on a link that I know is bogus. I would think something could be done about these people phishing us.

    Hi

My name is Daniel. I am an Independent Advisor.

Please ignore the email, it's a phishing email. The point is, if you log in to your account at least once in the last 2 years then you don't need to worry about the account closure. Microsoft will never be notifying you about closing accounts, and moreover, an account can only be closed either manually by the account owner, or if the account has been inactive for about two years.

Please refer to this article on how to deal with phishing emails:

    Kind Regards

Thank you however it would seem that microsoft would stop these phishers. They are misrepresenting microsoft and hurting a lot of less aware people. Most of them come from btconnect accounts. Why not investigate and prosecute to end the harrassment. Thanks

Rest assured Microsoft has been aware of this issue, spammer keep changing their address.

As a complimentary tactic, try to create a rule where you filter the subject line based on the keywords they often use then on the 2nd action dropdown menu select delete: https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/mail/rules
