Categorise and copy to/move to folder rules not working.

I have two rules that are currently not working in Outlook 365. When the rules were first made they seemed to work however now they do not.

The rules are as follows:

  1. To Do (client-only)
  • Apply this rule after the message arrives

-assigned to To Do category

-move a copy to the To Do folder

  1. Course (client-only)
  • Apply this rule after the message arrives

-assigned to Courses category

-move it to the Courses folder

The aim of both these rules is to sort items into their respective folders if I categorise them into either 'To Do' or 'Courses'.

When categorising emails with either of the categories above, neither type of email is moved/copied into its respective folder.

I understand that client-only means outlook has to be running but was under the impression this wouldn't be an issue as, obviously (I assume), outlook has to be running in order for me to set the category.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback and your tolerance for this!

For your info, there is the "Run this rule now on message already in xxx" option during the rule setup. However, it's unchecked by default.

And the Run Rules Now option can be found in Move > Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts.

Thank you again for your understanding!

    Hi Sam_409,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft community.

Based on your description, I firstly tested from my side. You're right, at first, the rule seemed unworkable.

After waiting for a few minutes, I tried to manually run this rule.

    And it worked!

Hope it helps! If any update, welcome to share with us.

    Thanks & Stay safe,

    Qian

    Thanks for your response Qian,

Thanks for finding out a fix for this issue. It's a shame there isn't a 'Run Rules' option when creating a rule!

If anyone else has this problem / issue, adding the 'Run Rules Now' action to the task ribbon facilitates ease of use.

    Thanks,

    Sam
