How to hide emails and/or folders in the Microsoft Outlook app for Android and iPhone

Hello

We have a Microsoft 365 subscription and use the Outlook app (for Android and iPhone) on our mobile devices. When using the app on our mobile phones we are presented with every folder, which makes navigating down the list time-consuming when trying to find a specific email and/or folder. Is there a way to configure the app to only show certain folders?

Failing the above, what is the best way to archive old emails and/or folders no longer in use so that only relevant folders are displayed in the Microsoft Outlook app? We do not wish to delete our emails/folders, so if they cannot be hidden from the app can they be archived in some way and, if so, how can this be achieved?

Many thanks for any help offered.

    I have the same issue.

I have several subfolders in my inbox.

Although the folders are all collapsed/minimised on my desktop they are all showing on the app which, as previously mentioned, is a pain when you want to scroll down to sent items, for instance.

So as far as I can tell the desktop does not control how the app functions

    Kind Regards

    Lee

    Hi Mouettes,

Thanks for reaching out to our Microsoft Community Forum and please accept our sincerest hope that all is well.

We understand you'd like to the ability to hide or archive folders in Outlook for mobile (iOS and Android) to make navigating through multiples folders easier.

So the mobile versions of Microsoft 365 apps like Outlook have a limited feature set compared to their full desktop counterparts and some of those limitations includes the very same features you've mentioned above. To put it simply, the mobile versions of Microsoft 365 apps are designed to imitate just the basic functionality of the desktop version of the apps and not all the functionality.

This might not be what you had expected of the mobile apps so at this point we highly recommend that you use the built-in feedback feature of the apps to make you voice heard. As noted in our How do I give feedback on Microsoft Office? guide: "We'd love to hear from you. Let us know what's working well, if there are problems with our products, or if you have ideas about new functionality that would improve your experience. Your feedback goes directly to our products teams and helps us shape the future of Office for users around the world."

Feel free to reply to this thread if you need further clarification.

    Respectfully,

    Glenn Rue

Thank you for the reply, Glenn. Your message indicates that the Microsoft 365 Outlook app is limited compared to full desktop functionality, which is understandable. Does this therefore mean I can hide emails and/or folders in the main desktop and then this would be reflected in the app when it synchronises? It would be helpful to know how I can organise our desktop Outlook as we do not wish to delete emails/folders, simply hide/archive them.

    Kind regards

    Robert

Thanks, Lee, for the reply. I was wondering if one of the M365 Moderators are able to advise myself and Lee as to how the Microsoft Outlook desktop functionality can be used to achieve what we would like to do?

    Many thanks

    Robert

My apologies for the late reply, Robert.

Since it's understood that the mobile versions of Outlook have limited functionality compared to the desktop versions then we can move forward with the archiving of mails in the desktop version of Outlook. With regards to that you might want to check this article on how that's done:
