Problem resolved, the 'Immersive Reader', whatever that is, got activated, which completely screwed up the display.

For the last several days, the font and line spacing in my Outlook reading pane has been messed up. I have tried changing the font, but no matter what I change it to, the display does not change. I cannot find a setting for line spacing. How can I get my font and line spacing to go back to normal?
