Exchange ActiveSync no longer available

Hi

I'm having issues with my Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S9+.

Ever since I'm using Smartphones, I have selected the option "Exchange ActiveSync" to save my contacts. Today, whatsapp suddenly only displayed phone numbers instead of contacts so I checked the contact app. There, I still saw some contacts (connected via my email address which is an hotmail.com address, the same one I'm using for the activesync), but others, especially newer ones, weren't there anymore. And when I mock creating a new contact, it no longer gives me the option to save it via Exchange ActiveSync.

Today I also learned, that Exchange is only for companies/universities? But I've been using it for years as a private person.

When I go to settings there's no option to add an Exchange ActivSync, and if I use "Google Exchange" it tells me that my hotmail.com email is a private email address.

Now, how do I get back to my contacts stored via ActiveSync? Why can't I access this anymore / set it up on my phone?!

Out of frustration I reset my whole phone because I remembered that in the process of setting up my phone I had the chance to connect my phone with an exchange activesync. This option no longer showed up though?

Thanks for help

Micah

I´ve been thinking abount this situation for several days now, since I recently changed devices and I noticed that in my S20+ the option "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync" appears, but in my S22 Ultra it doesn´t.

Unlike the original post, my main concern was the Calendar, as I don´t use Contacts that much.

After trying everything I read on the internet, and testing myself, it seems that I came to a solution that has already worked for me on 2 devices.

Here are the steps that I followed:

    1. Install Outlook app.
    2. Log into Outlook with your Hotmal/Outlook/Live account.
    3. Once logged in, go to Settings
    4. Under "Mail accounts" Select your account.
    5. By default it seems that Contacts and Calendar syncs are off, change them to On.

Once this is done, the Outlook calendar will start to sync with the Samsung calendar.

I guess the same will happen with Contacts, but I haven´t tested it yet.

I got a new phone today, Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, and its missing the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync option in the Add Account screen. Is this no longer available to use Microsoft and I need to migrate everything to google?

Guys, I'm not sure if this can help, but in my case, it worked

    try to follow this guide

    https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/sync-outlook/syncing-outlook-with-an-android-smartphone/

I could sot the issue by just setting up the exchange account manually

adding the "exchange" account, on the bottom left of the screen select the manual set up. then use your email details, as server use eas.outlook.com . to me worked like a charm =)

Was this ever resolved? I see this conversation from March but no indication of what the answer was.

I just moved from an S10 to a S20FE. I haven't factory reset my old phone yet so I can confirm the old one said "Microsoft Exhange Activesync" and the new one doesn't.

That's really annoying that we need to use the Gmail app to access mail/calendar/etc. (Yes, I have the outlook mobile app for email but I prefer alternate apps for calendar and contacts)

So yes, something changed. No, it's not just you. Yes, you need to use the "exchange" account type with the Gmail icon.

They tell you you can't use that account type with outlook.com. But that is not true!

I wouldn't put it past Google to intentionally give a misleading error message to discourage people away from outlook.com.

Anyway, you can set up the red "M" Exhnage account if you specify the server names manually. There is a "setup manually" option. It's too bad it's no longer automatic, but at least power users can still do it. Remember that your "domain" username is your Hotmail/Outlook/Live email address.

This article seems to have the steps. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/set-up-email-in-android-email-app-71147974-7aca-491b-978a-ab15e360434c

You definitely do not have to migrate to Gmail!
