If I create a new email alias, will I receive the same emails I get on my main account and same spam messages as well?

I don’t want to delete my hotmail email address as it’s linked to a lot of things and to be honest I can still use it for minor things like purchasing from other websites and general emails however I am getting upwards of 100 spam emails a day.

Instead of starting again with a new email, if I were to create a new outlook alias which would be directly linked to my hotmail account, would I be able to receive the same genuine inbox emails I’m getting from my hotmail account to the new outlook one ?

Also if this were possible does that mean the new outlook email alias would also get the same spam messages the hotmail one is getting?

Ideally I just want an outlook account with minimal spam

You'll get the same spam you are getting now - adding an alias won't reduce the amount of spam. It's just another address to use.

You can have up to 10 aliases on an account (adding them one at a time over a few weeks or months) - and many people use the aliases as throwaway addresses - they use them to sign up on websites (instead of using their primary address) and when the spam gets bad, they delete the alias and make a new one. You just need to make sure you don't delete an alias you use for important websites (like banking) or for a recovery address on another account.

Yes, it won't do anything to change the amount of spam you get - but if you limit who has the new address, you won't get spam on the new address. But you'll still get the spam on the old address.

    Hello NbPawn3r

I'm Diane, an Office Apps & Services MVP specializing in Outlook, and I’m happy to help you today.

If you add an alias to the account, you will get mail sent to the alias and to the original address. But you can create a rule to delete mail sent to the old address - this will get rid of spam left in the inbox. It won't work on mail in the junk mail folder.

I don’t mind getting spam on the old address as I’d still be getting the same emails to my new alias won’t I?

Nobody will know what the alias account email is either as I won’t really be using it for anything other than to hopefully receive my mail without spam being directed to the alias too

    Hi Diane

I understand the initial part about getting the same mail to the original address and to the alias and seeing as I’d still be using my hotmail account I wouldn’t need to really create a rule to delete those going there, I’m just concerned about the spam. Do I basically get exactly the same spam messages on my main email and alias as I would normal inbox messages because if that’s the case I may as well not create an alias
