Outlook causing my mac to run slowly

Recently that the fan on my MacBook runs continuously due to high cpu usage and all applications run badly. This only happens if I have outlook running, if I shut down outlook after a while the fan stops, CPU usage reduces and all apps work fine again.

looking at processes that are running by a long way the one using most cpu is "Microsoft Outlook Web Content" running at over 60% CPU. Sometimes there are multiples of this.

I am on the latest version of outlook and Mac OS.

help please.

FYI to all, I opened a case a while back under my company's Unified Support agreeement with Microsoft and did get acknowledgement that the product group is working on this however, no ETA. I am starting an escalation process with my support manager on it today since it has been a few weeks at this point since I opened the case.

The issue has been there for a few months so both before and after the recent OS upgrade which I did do.

The fan doesn't run at all, other than when I have outlook running.and runs if outlook is the only app open. Not immediately but after some time.

If connect to outlook via a browser I don't have the issue but that doesn't really help as the reason I use outlook is to use multiple email accounts from the same interface. One is a Hotmail account and the other an o365 account.

    Hello All,

I agree this issue is really annoying - I am not far from giving up Outlook and switching to a proper Emailing client on Mac OS...

Plus there are already existing threads in the support forum, but Microsoft would not lift the finger: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/outlook-consumes-too-much-memory-on-macbook-air/16d3e01b-4cbe-4363-8d26-4af2737b8685?messageId=5628288e-eb5b-4e30-a038-ddf54709ec61

At least you will find in the above thread the origin of the issue, for your awareness.

Microsoft Team please do something, at least respond to your customers.

    Thank you,

    Louis

I have also been experiencing this issue (Microsoft Outlook Web Content" process consuming memory) for 2+ weeks or so. Currently running Big Sur 11.6.2 and Outlook 16.57 (22011101). It's debilitating. Please help.
