Forward and Back Buttons Gone in Outlook Web

I use Outlook in my Chrome browser. I'm not sure if there was a recent update, but yesterday there were changes in the ribbon options, and I no longer have the forward and back buttons. (The ones that allow you to click to the next or the previous email when viewing an email.)

I tried going to settings>mail>customize actions, but there is no option there for the forward and back buttons, and all support posts I find with this issue are people using the desktop version of Outlook.

How can I get this feature back? It is hard to work without it.

I don't see the arrows even when the reading pane is hidden. And there is no way (that I can find) to bring them back. I've attached a screen cap.

I was able to get it working last week by logging out and back into the web browser via Firefox, but now logging out and back in again does not show the up/down buttons. I get a couple hundred emails a day so shifting back and forth is not ideal. I've resorted to using my phone email client for the time being until this issue is sorted out.

    Dear Amanda Goodness,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

According to your description, in Outlook Web App I only found one similar feature: “previous” and “next” buttons. These 2 buttons appear only when “the reading pane” is hidden:

If I turn on the reading pane, these 2 buttons won’t show up in Outlook Web App and I need to use up and down arrows on keyboard to switch to previous and next emails.

Please check if you’re in the same situation. If you have different scenario, you can share more details with me ( like one screenshot) so that I can compare it on my side for checking. We look forward to your reply.
