Using Outlook.com when I download an attachment it automatically saves to the Downloads folder.

I want to be able to re-name the files and choose the destination folder *BEFORE* it downloads. How do I do this?

So, weird thing, in my 'Download' settings there was an extra box below the two in your screenshot. I can't remember what it said (it didn't seem relevant to the problem), but there was a blue "Clear" button. I pressed it, the box disappeared and now downloads work properly.

I guess it must have been some kind of exception.

Thanks again for your help Karl.

It did turn out to be a chrome issue, and by luck i solved it myself without even knowing what i was doing. Isn't technology wonderful.

Have you enabled the Chrome setting to explicitly <Ask to save each file before downloading> as described in the Google article I included in my previous response?

Step #1 and #2 are all good, but step #3 does not happen. No window pops up, it just downloads straight to download folder.

Since I seem to have the Chrome settings correct (can you please check yours? Might be a clue) I am thinking it may be a setting in Outlook.

Are there any settings in Outlook that have anything to do with downloads, or chrome?

    Thanks Karl,

I am using Chrome and i have checked the box next to "Ask where to save each file before downloading."

But when using Outlook (and only when using Outlook) it never asks and only downloads immediately to the Downloads folder.

I want outlook to ask first (as per the setting in Chrome) but Outlook is ignoring this setting.

Is there any way to make Outlook ask where to save each file before downloading?

    Thanks

    Hello Peastoff

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

What browser are you using to download?

Both Chrome & Edge both allow you to do this based on your browser settings - I have both browsers set to let me choose where to save a file (and give it whatever name I want)

    For edge

Change the downloads folder location in Microsoft Edge

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-e...

For Chrome - scroll down the following page to change the <Download> Settings

    under the section

    <Change download locations>

    Download a file
