Log in to Outlook.com on macOS Mail app with two-factors authentication

I want to set up my outlook.com account on my Macbook pro with Big Sur, but I have two-factor authentication turned on for my Microsoft account. When I put in my account password it rejects it. Is there a way to get it connected with my 2-factor authentication? I know Apple account and Google accounts have different work-arounds

    Hi עידו כסלו Ido kislev,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help.

If I understand your concern correctly, you are trying to setup your Outlook.com account on the default mail app on your Macbook pro. However when you put your account it rejects the password of your email. Am I correct?

This might be because of your two-factor authentication that is enabled on your Outlook.com account. If you have enabled your two-factor authentication, your normal password on your account will not work as it requires a second level of security. You will need an app password that will be generated from your Outlook.com account to be used instead of your normal password. Let’s work together in finding the best solution to this issue.

However, I would like to know first what is the configuration you choose to setup your Outlook.com account? Is it IMAP, POP, or Microsoft Exchange?

Now to generate an app password for your Outlook.com account, please follow the instruction stated on this support article. Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification (microsoft.com)

I look forward to your response.

    Sincerely,

    ReynaldoB
