Internet calendar will not appear in outlook desktop

Hello - I successfully added my Google calendar to my Outlook desktop app a few months ago, but it disappeared from the folder pane a couple days ago. I have tried to add my Google back to my Outlook using the Add Calendar > From Internet... > and I enter my google calendar's secret address in iCal format in the pop-up window. After I do this, it shows the calendar/folder animation that says contacting web server (picture below) and then brings up the following window asking me if I want to add the calendar to outlook and subscribe to updates. When I click yes, nothing happens - the calendar does not appear in the folder pane on the left with my other calendars. There is no error message.

Before clicking yes, i have also looked at the advanced configuration options which show the following:

  • Checked - display this calendar on other computers with the account: my email address
  • Unchecked - download attachments for items in this Internet Calendar
  • Checked - update this subscription with the publisher's recommendation...

Can anyone please help me add this Google calendar back to my Outlook desktop app?

    Dear N Brenner,

    Good day!

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

Before we proceed, I would require more information to assist you accurately.

May i know the version of the outlook? note that:

By default, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019, and Outlook for Microsoft 365 use a new modern authentication stack. Even if the Internet calendar file that you are trying to open does not require authentication, Outlook broadcasts its ability to do modern authentication on the server that contains the calendar. Most server software responds to this broadcast by supporting modern authentication. However, some servers consider the broadcast to be an invalid client request. Therefore, they return a response that causes Outlook to cancel the attempt to add the calendar.

For example, server software that's running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) may consider the authentication broadcast to be invalid and refuse the connection.

    Workaround

To work around this issue, use Outlook Web App (OWA). OWA doesn't have this authentication header behavior. Therefore, it will successfully open the Internet calendar that you want to add.

To use OWA to add the calendar, follow these steps:

    1. Sign in to OWA.
    2. Switch to the Calendar module.
    3. Select the Add calendar menu.
    4. Select the From internet option.
    5. Provide the URL and an optional calendar name.
    6. Select Save.

    1. What is the type of account in outlook? Is it a POP, IMAP, or Exchange account?

    2. Please try to see if import your Google Calendar to Outlook can resolve the issue.

Do this step for each Google Calendar you want to import to Outlook.

    1. In Outlook on your desktop (Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2016), go to your Calendar.
    2. Choose File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
    3. In the Import and Export Wizard, choose Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file, and then choose Next.

    1. Browse to where you stored the extracted file, and choose the one that ends with gmail.com, and choose OK.

    1. Choose Import.

Hi Eben - Thank you. I am using Outlook for Microsoft 365 for enterprise, and I was able to add the calendar on OWA. Now it shows in my desktop app as well. Consider this one resolved!
