Delete and account too recreate it

Anonymous

I created an account so I could add it as an alias to my MS 365 account.

MS will not let me add it because it was created outside of my 365 account. Every tie I have tried to add it as an alias it says it is already in use. Yes, it is my account.

If I delete this account will MS let me recreate it through my 365 account under the Add an Alias function?

How long will it take before I can recreate it?

why is it impossible to talk to anyone at MS?

thanks

Dave T

    Hello DavidTrude

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

    Rules surrounding Microsoft based accounts

#1 - Once an account is permanently deleted, it can never be recovered / recreated

#2 - The action of removing a Microsoft based alias email address is both immediate and permanent. It can never be recreated or recovered, This is described at the bottom of the following article

<"I want to move or transfer my alias to another account to merge or consolidate accounts">

Change the email address or phone number for your Microsoft account

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-bil...

#3 - You cannot add an existing Microsoft based email address as an alias to another existing account

#4 - You cannot add a deleted email address as an alias account

#5 - If you try to create a new account using a deleted email address, you would encounter an error message that the email address is already in use. That is technically correct since every email address is maintained in a database so that it can be checked. What is misleading about that message is that it does not indicate that it involves a deleted email address which causes confusion

I understand Karl. I was not unloading on you. I've done Customer/Tech support for Verizon (DSL back in the early days) and know how it works.

First, just so there is no misunderstanding, this is a public user-to-user support forum. We're users just like you helping other users. We do not work for Microsoft and have no access to any user account so there is nothing we can do or check from within the forum. We have no input on Microsoft's policies, procedures, or design decisions.

With that said, unfortunately, the steps that should have been followed would be to have created an "alias" address instead of new account as described in

Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/add-or...

The way to contact Microsoft Support for the account is as follows but only providing this info because you asked. It will be a waste of time since there are no exceptions to the rules I outlined in the original response.

To contact Outlook.com support, log into your Outlook.com account using a browser and click on the ? (top right)

    #1 - Enter your question

#2 - When the results are returned, scroll down to the end of the returned results and click on <Yes> under the question "Still need help?"

    #3 - Proceed accordingly

Can appreciate how frustrating this is but regrettably there are no options other then creating an alias email address using a slightly different <username> - you won;t be able to add any existing account as an alias

Well, I need a MS person to help then. This whole problem is because of them.

I created an Outlook account using my name, so I could replace my Gmail account that is the default for my MS account.

I only created and email account and they created a full-on MS account. I never wanted another MS Account
Nowhere was I ever warned about another account being created or the fact that I could never use my name as an email again at MS.

how the F do you get in touch with these people to get this convoluted stuff fixed.
