Outlook folder indicating unread messages, but no messages are shown in the folder

OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 build 19045.2604

Microsoft 365 version 18.2301.1131.0

I am having several problems with Outlook:

  1. It often just stops displaying the contents of any folder. Closing and restarting it usually fixes the problem, but not always - see next problem.
  2. It has recently decided to indicate that I have unread messages in some of my folders, but it doesn't actually show any messages in the folders. There are, or should be, messages in the folders because I HAVE NOT deleted them!
  3. It has also deleted all of my draft messages (3 times now). None of these messages have been sent because I haven't filled in any of the To, Cc or Bcc address boxes.

What is going on?

Hello Tim! My name is Abdullah, and I will assist you today.

Your concern is duly noted and understood. Please filter the inbox with "Unread Emails" and then you should be able to see the unread emails only. Please check the screenshot attached.

Please let me know if the above information helped you. Thank you.

    Best,

    Abdullah

    Hi Abdullah

Did that and finally found out what the problem was - for some unknown (i.e. not done by me) reason the messages had been hidden.

    Thanks Tim

    Thanks Abdullah,

I've done that. Screenshot attached showing a folder (US) indicating an unread email, but no message in the folder.

As per my reply to Palcouk, it only appears to be happening with this one PST and I have run a PST repair on it as well.

    Hi Tim,

    Thank you for the reply.

I see. Is this happening to a Microsoft email account? If yes, have you checked your account via the Outlook web (outlook.com)?

    Thank you.

    Hi Tim,

    Thank you for the reply.

Let us create a new profile and check if that can help.

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Select the Windows icon, type Control Panel in the search box and select it.
    2. In Control Panel, search Mail, and select it.
    3. The Mail icon won't appear unless you have Outlook installed and have run the program at least once.

The Mail Setup dialog box opens.

    1. Click Show Profiles. > Choose prompt for a profile to be used.
    2. Click Add.
    3. Type a name for the profile, and then click OK
    4. Add an e-mail account to use in your profile by following the directions on your screen.

Note: DO NOT delete the old profile.

    Thank you.
