When trying to reset the password for an old account I have had, using text message verification, I get the message There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later. I have tried for a few weeks, using different browsers and computers, and have tried this same recovery method on other accounts without a problem.

    Hello,

The current status is looking good for me. Everything is green.

    • The domain it is on is @hotmail.no
    • There is an option to verify by email, but that address does not exist anymore.
    • The problem started around a few weeks ago when I first tried to get into the account.

    Best regards,

    Sander

    Hi sklausen,

Thank you for providing this information.

The reason why you are getting the error message might be because your security information is not updated. Now, since there's no other way for you to get the verification code, you will need to submit the account recovery form online to verify your identity. Please use this link here. -->> https://account.live.com/acsr

Collect as much information as you can about any Microsoft services you may have used with the account. The more information you can include when filling out the form, the better the chance you’ll have of regaining access to your account.

    Sincerely,

When was the last time that you accessed the account?

Has it been more than one year? Two years?

If the account has not been accessed for two years, then the account is probably deleted.

    Hi sklausen,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I hope everything is well.

Based on your description, it seems to be that you have concern about the recovery of your account wherein you are getting an error message when using the text message for the verification. There are number of possible reasons why you are getting this type of error message during verification process. Let’s work together in finding the best solution to this issue.

I've tried to communicate with our internal team about this matter and there was no reported cases about this problem on the Microsoft Accounts. And upon further checking on the service portal on Microsoft website, we didn't found any reported issues regarding with the verification of Microsoft Accounts. Everything was up and running.

You might need to check for yourself the current status on the Microsoft portal through this link here. -->> Service Status (office.com)

However, in order for us to better isolate the problem, I would ike to ask a few things.

    • What specific email address you are having issues with? Just provide us the domain if it is on @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, @msn.com or something else?
    • Do you have other option in verifying your account aside from your phone number? If you do have other option to get the verification like an alternate email address please try to test and see if it has the same behavior.
    • When did the problem started?

I look forward to your response.

    Sincerely,

    ReynaldoB
