Outlook mobile app sign in loop on Android

I cannot sign into my Outlook account on my mobile phone.

  • I created my M365 account with my Gmail address.
  • I have a Pixel 5 with Android 13.
  • I downloaded the Outlook app from the Google play store.
  • I have the Office app and can sign in.
  • I can sign into Outlook and Office on my mobile browser and on desktop browsers and office apps.

The steps I follow when I experience the problem:

  1. I open the Outlook app
  2. I follow the prompt to add an account. No other accounts are signed in.
  3. I enter my account name with the @gmail domain
  4. I enter my password
  5. I chose my authentication code method and enter the code
  6. The app displays a spinning symbol momentarily, then a black screen, and finally returns me to the password entry screen.
  7. The app is now in a sign in loop, cycling through steps 4, 5, and 6 above.

Troubleshooting I've done:

  • Restart the app And reattempt
  • Restart my phone and reattempt
  • Uninstall Outlook, restart phone, reinstall and reattempt
  • Uninstall all Windows apps, restart phone, reinstall and reattempt
  • Sign in successfully with another exchange based account, sign out, and reattempt with @gmail account.

Additional troubleshooting performed at direction of community support:

  • Retested - issue appears on both WiFi and mobile data.
  • Verified - device's battery settings are not restricting Outlook or Office applications.
  • Retested- issue behaves identically when phone is plugged in or operating on battery.

How do I fix this issue and sign in?

You were helpful. Thank you. However, your response did not solve the problem as the review question asked. You still got 5 stars.

I see you have marked my response as not helpful. I'm very sorry but as this is merely a public community forum for users alike, none of us here actually work for Microsoft. However, I do hope that I was able to point you in the right direction.

    Very sincerely,

    Raech C.

Thank you also for doing the tests. At this point, I would advise for you to report this directly to the Outlook mobile team for further investigation. When you do, please do mention all of the troubleshooting steps that you did so you do not have to repeat them again.

Please go to your Outlook mobile settings page, select Help & feedback > Contact Support.

You should receive an in-app message from support within 24 hours.

I hope this helps. Kind regards.

Hi there! This is Raech. I'm a fellow Outlook.com user and I'm here to help.

This could be a recent bug and I may need to ask you to report this directly to the Outlook mobile support. But before that, can you please test if the issue happens on either WiFi or mobile data?

Also, can you please check your device's battery settings and make sure that it is not restricting your Outlook mobile?
