Microsoft Storage vs Email Storage

Hi, I'm getting out of storage message in email saying my Microsoft Storage is hitting the limit. It seems all my attachments are stored/transferred from Email Storage into Microsoft storage. The dumb thing here is, email storage is 15Gb vs. Microsoft Storage is 5Gb. Naturally, the latter will run out sooner when attachments are transferred from Email storage (which is larger). This could be dumb or smart as, MS's cunning plan to force folks to buy space?

My question is, (why store the same data in two places and) CAN I simply delete all files (attachment) from Microsoft Storage WITHOUT FEAR that it will get zapped from my Email storage.

I see NO VALUE in storing emails in Microsoft Storage. In fact, I was not aware this was happening until I got the out of storage message.

Any guidance or help will be greatly valued. I looked to several blogs on MS etc. can could not find any. This is a related threat but no concluding answers were provided. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook\_com/forum/all/hotmail-email-stored-in-microsoft-storage-and-not/1d76c4fc-fd78-46c4-bafe-2baed8306981

Thanks very much!

Karl, Thanks so much for the response. One question if you can help, could I simply delete the attachments in Microsoft Storage and just rely on Email storage? Or, the deletion will simply cause the data to be copied/transferred back over from Email storage, in essence achieving nothing? If this is the case, it seems to be MS way to force us to subscribe without having to advertise that they are reducing storage on Outlook.

    Thanks again...

You can't delete attachments without deleting the email they're attached to.

That would be my guess too. There will either be new subscriptions or mass exodus of free users.

Same issue. The solution is download all your emails. Forward all incoming emails to a new Gmail/Drive or other email service that has a better email/storage structure.
