Btconnect email address not working with "Outlook for Microsoft 365"

Hi

This morning the Outlook program stopped being able to send or receive emails from my btconnect.com email address.

Whenever I try and refresh its asks for the password (which is correct) but can't get past this screen.

BT were less than helpful when I contacted them saying their email addresses are no longer supported by Microsoft for Outlook.

Is this true? Is there movement to make Outlook and BT email addresses compatible again? Is there a fix?

TBH the Outlook program is the only reason why I pay for this service so I would like to know if there are at least efforts to fix this issue.

I'm running Microsoft Windows 11

My email ends @btconnect.com

I'm paying for Office 365 (With Outlook, Word, Excel etc etc) and running them as apps.

If you need any following information, please let me know.

Outlook | Windows | Classic Outlook for Windows | For home

    Thanks you for your help,

I contacted BT support who said that they are not compatible with the new security measures in place and probably are not likely to be going forward and suggested using a third party email provider that would be compatible with Microsoft 365 (Gmail, Hotmail and the like) as a go-between.

Its seems like a very messy work around, but our email address is known by all of my customers, so getting rid of it is not something we can justify.

Thank you, Gabriel, but those are the settings I was using successfully until BT made changes this morning.

Ok, after having wasted half my day, I think I have a solution (no thanks to BT for their "help").

Remove and reinstall the email client in Thunderbird (it won't let you change the server type, i.e. from POP to something else).  From the available configs, choose Exchange/Office365 cloud services.  It then prompts a secondary Microsoft web log in (email account and password) and the purchaseof an interface application - OWL was recommended, at an annual subscription of €10.  Installing OWL seems to have done the trick - or at least until my ISP forces further changes on us.

Having the same issue here, sudden loss of connection on outlook to a btconnect.com email address.
    Very recent change.

The office.com web page still allows access to live emails, there just doesn't appear to be a correct configuration for the outlook client.

    Hello John Box Associates,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

The most likely reason for this problem is that BT Business is moving customers onto a new and improved email service powered by Microsoft Office 365. This means that you may need to update your email settings in Outlook to match the new service.

I am providing some general guidance that might help you troubleshoot the problem.

Verify your password: Double-check that you're entering the correct password for your btconnect.com email account. You can try logging into your email account through a web browser to ensure the password is correct.

Check server settings: Confirm that your Outlook account settings are properly configured for btconnect.com. You may need to review the incoming and outgoing server settings and ensure they match the requirements provided by BT. Generally, the incoming server should be "mail.btconnect.com" using the POP3 or IMAP protocol, and the outgoing server should be "smtp.btconnect.com."

Update Outlook: Make sure you have the latest updates installed for your version of Outlook. Sometimes, outdated software can cause compatibility issues. Check for updates in the Microsoft 365 application or visit the Microsoft website to download and install any available updates.

Disable antivirus/firewall: Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall software on your computer to see if they are blocking the connection between Outlook and the email server. If the issue resolves after disabling these software, you may need to adjust the settings or contact the software provider for further assistance.

Contact BT for support: Since BT has mentioned that their email addresses are no longer supported by Microsoft for Outlook, it would be best to reach out to BT's customer support for more information and assistance. They should be able to provide specific guidance and help you with any necessary configuration changes.

Remember, as technology and service offerings evolve, compatibility and support may change. It's possible that BT and Microsoft are working on a solution or exploring alternatives. Contacting BT's support directly will give you the most accurate and up-to-date information on the status of compatibility between BT email addresses and Outlook.

I hope this information helps, and I wish you success in resolving the issue with your btconnect.com email address in Outlook.

If there is any update or I misunderstand you, please feel free to let me know. I will continue to assist you. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day.
