OneDrive Vs Google One

I've just recently changed from a Samsung to a Google pixel.

Now I'm getting a error message when trying to use Outlook, saying my storage is at 100% so I can't receive or send emails.

I've upgraded my Google One so I get 100gb of storage, this links with my Google photos which is obviously what I'm using now, and would like to keep on using.

If I delete pictures on my OneDrive to make space for new emails etc, will this delete the pictures on my Google One?

Apologies if this is a silly question, I'm so confused by this and have tried googling but most of the answers I find are PC based!

    Hello, this is Emily.

I want to point out something very important here. It depends on how your photos are set up with OneDrive and Google One, there's actually one scenario your photos can be deleted from Google One if you delete them off OneDrive.

I urge that you do the following first.

If you have OneDrive app installed, click on the cloud icon on the bottom right on taskbar and go to Settings.

Go to Manage Backup, on the pop up, make sure all folders, especially the Pictures folders is turned off.

Then you can go to the Account tab and click on Unlink this PC.

After you unlink your PC, there's a chance your photos are gone in the Pictures folder. If that's the case, go to www.onedrive.com via the web browser, and download them manually from there.

Once the above steps are done, you can safely remove them in www.onedrive.com.

The reason I don't want you to do so is in case your OneDrive syncs with your local Pictures folder, and your Google is synced to your local Pictures folder as well. In that case, deleting from OneDrive will indirectly delete from Google via the local Pictures folder.

Hello! My name is Mostafa, and I’m an independent advisor and a long-time Microsoft user.

I’m sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you.

Deleting pictures from OneDrive will not delete them from Google One as they are separate cloud storage services. Deleting a photo from OneDrive will not directly free up space in your Outlook mailbox. OneDrive and Outlook are separate services with their own storage limits.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best,

    Mostafa

You are welcome. It's good to know that your concern was solved.

As I mentioned, they are separate cloud storage services; You can try to delete photos from one drive. I hope it helps.

If you have any Microsoft Office applications issue, you post your concern to the Office Community forum.

    Regards,

    Mostafa.

Hello Mostafa, thank you for your reply!

When I go into my OneDrive, it's saying my photos on there is where most of my storage has gone to, over 4gb worth.

I have under 30 emails in my main folder, nothing in my junk, I've emptied my deleted and it's still saying I've maxed out my storage.

I think I will delete my photos in OneDrive and see if that helps! I was just nervous of deleting them just incase they deleted everywhere!

To free up space in your Outlook mailbox, you can try the following:

    1. Delete old or unnecessary emails from your inbox and folders.
    2. Empty your deleted items folder.
    3. Archive old emails to a separate PST file or to the cloud using a service like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.
    4. Compact your mailbox to remove any unused space.

If you continue to have storage issues, you may need to consider upgrading your storage plan or moving your email data to a different service that offers more storage space.
