Need Outlook to prompt for password every time outlook is opened.

I am working with a client who uses Microsoft 365 applications. The user is leaving the country next week and I need for his Outlook account to prompt him for a password every single time he opens the app. I have searched for a solution all over the web and so far, every single solution provided (even here on microsoft) either does not work, or provides incorrect information. Was Outlook 365 just designed to never ask for a password unless you manually sign out? The option to change this setting, right in Outlook, is grayed out and I have no idea why. Why bother adding a feature if users aren't allowed to enable it?

Please let me know if what I need is even possible or if this was a design flaw.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you for trying to help me. I feel like this is a special case. the user is using Microsoft 365 Apps for business - Version 16.0.16327.20214. The device is not on any domain so it is not being controlled by any GPO.

I am unable to remove the credentials from Credential Manager because i do not see credentials for outlook.office365.com.

The link provided in your last post also seems to be directed towards Office 2016, not 365.

Go to File -> Info -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Tab Email -> Change -> Popup Change Account -> Deselect "Use cached exchange mode" -> next -> Finish

Tried this and it also did not work

Still needing help. I have no idea what makes this account so special that nothing is working.

    Hi David,

    Thanks for your response.

The first link doesn't provide accurate information. I have seen this article before and found that step 2. only seems to work for "OLDER" versions of outlook.

When I went to the registry, there is no "outlook\Security" folder.

This article also does not provide any information as to what to do if the folder that you are supposed to go to isn't there. It also does not provide any information to indicate that this can be used for Microsoft 365.

    But thanks for trying.

    Still needing help.
