Change time stamp of a delayed email in Outlook.

Is there a way for a delayed email in outlook to show the time stamp as when it officially sent (the time I choose when 'not to deliver before' instead of the time showing as when I hit 'send.' ?

Sometimes I do work after hours and don't want to send an email until a particular time of day (normal working hours), but I don't want the recipient to see I was working outside of normal hours. I want them to see the time stamp of the email at the time I wanted them to receive it. Thanks.

    Dear MichaelV_123,

    Good day!

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

Typically, when you use a delayed email in Outlook, recipients will see the "not to deliver before" time you selected. Because the email message that you compose and schedule to send will remain in the Outbox folder until the scheduled time arrives. Then Outlook will send this email, and the email will leave your server and delivered to the recipient at the scheduled time. As a result, the recipient will see the timestamp of the scheduled time (the timestamp you filled in in the "not to deliver before" section) instead of the timestamp you hit the send button. I have been testing your query from y end, you can refer to the test and result screenshot below.

    Test From sender side

Test #1 scheduled email to send on 3:00 AM and send.

Test #2 the scheduled email in Outbox folder at 2:57 AM

Result recipient side: The recipient received the email on the scheduled time 3:01 AM instead of 2:57 AM where I originally send 2:57 AM.

    Result sender side:

Therefore, based on our test results, we can confirm that your recipients will not know that you are working outside normal business hours since scheduled emails are sent to them during business hours.

We look forward to you update. Please feel free to let me know if there are any questions or if we've got you wrong. We will keep assisting you based on the information you provide. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation.

    Stay safe and healthy.

    Have a good day!

I tested this out today and it works as Libeamlak noted above. I will say, however, that it did not work this way for several years--somewhere around 2017 or 2018. So, Microsoft seems to be changing how this feature works over the years. I say this because for many years prior to 2017'ish the feature worked as one would expect then, again >2017, it "worked" as MichaelV_123 described...which is not very helpful for those who do not want their exact work hours known. Good news: it's working as hoped right now. Bad news: Since Microsoft doesn't publicize these small changes for the average user, there's no telling when it will change back again.

Libeamlak, thank you for testing this out and so nicely displaying the screenshots.

    John

    Hello,

I'm experiencing almost the same problem right now, but with a difference: checking my Inbox with Outlook desktop App, the message is listed with a (wrong) recived timestamp equal to the composition date of the message. Instead, if I read my inbox via web app (I'm using Gmail), the message show the right recived timestamp.

Is there a way to show the right recived timestamp in outlook app too?

    Best regards

Did you send the email to yourself? That might be why it is showing the composition date in Outlook.
