Encrypted connection to your mail server is not available outlook.

Hi Guys,

At the time I had outlook 2019 in my laptop.
One day when I started out I got this message:

Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set folders cannot be opened.  he file C:\Users\John Doe .... abc.ost cannot be accessed. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange at least once before you can use your Outlook data file(.ost)

Then when I tried to re-create one email for a new profile I started to get this message:
Encrypted connection to your mail server is not available outlook.

I UN-Installed outlook 2019 which is part of Office 2019 and then installed Office 2021.
Got the same error again as:  Encrypted connection…

I went through any possible way to fix including creating manual account as POP3 and nothing worked.

I removed all files and re-created the profile and no Joy.

I tried to create an account in a different computer and in seconds it was created while the email was found using outlook.office365.com.

Where do we go from here?

Thanks,

Doron

The operating systems (Win 10) and your Outlook version support modern authentication. You don't need to mess around with the registry for whatever reason. If you changed registry settings as suggested by other advisor, you need to change it back. Disabling modern authentication on your laptop may be the reason why you're prompted for password again and again.

Hello! My name is Mostafa; I will assist you today.

I’m sorry that you are experiencing this issue. The error message “Encrypted connection to your mail server is not available” usually appears when Outlook’s Auto Account Setup can’t determine the correct settings to use.

Please refer to the below link to resolve your issue.

    https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/config/outloo...

You can try creating the following registry keys in Register Editor:

    HKCurrentUser \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Office \ 16.0 \ Common \ Identity DWORD > Type "EnableADAL" and keep the value 0

Search Registery in the Taskbar search to open it.

Please let me know if the above steps did not help. Thank you.

    You said this:

    >>I tried to create an account in a different computer and in seconds it was created while the email was found using outlook.office365.com.

Is that the same account as the one you got a problem adding on the laptop? Sounds like it is a business account. If that's correct, what is the domain part of your email address you're adding? Don't post your entire address. Are you adding it from the same network (ie, from home WiFi). What operating systems are you using on the problem laptop?

This sounds like autodiscover DNS setting problem to me but I'm puzzled why 1 computer has no problem querying autodiscover to find the settings but the laptop has problem.

Don't mess around with the registry settings. Your Outlook supports modern authentication. You don't need to disable it.

The purpose of the registry change is to disable Modern Authentication in your client’s O365 tenant, either for all services or for specific services.

If you don’t have the DWORD key “EnableADAL” under HKCurrentUser \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Office \ 16.0 \ Common \ Identity, you can create it by right-clicking on Identity and selecting New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Then type “EnableADAL” as the name of the new value and keep the value 0.

    Keep me posted. Thank you.

    Hi Mostafa,

    Thanks for replying.

I tried that article and it did not work for me.
    https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/config/outlook-auto-account-setup-encrypted-connection-not-available

    Regarding the registry.

I have all of that till identity.
    HKCurrentUser \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Office \ 16.0 \ Common \ Identity
    DWORD is not there

    Can you clarify?
What the purpose of that registry change?

    Thanks,

    Doron
