How To Manually Check for Updates within New Outlook for Windows?

This evening, I have tried out the New Outlook for Windows on my laptop which is running Windows 11 22H2 and I have noticed that the old way to check for and install updates to the Office 365 Suite has disappeared. So I have switched back to the Classic version.

In the Classic version, you would go to File, Office Account and then click 'Check for Updates'

Can someone advise me how do this in the New Outlook for Windows?

I have always done this manually, I wish to continue doing so.

Many thanks in advance

Neil

Sorry about giving you bum information - it's a store app. You can turn updates off on all store apps. Open the store, click on your profile in the upper right and select settings.

I haven't decided which New app I prefer - the mac version is farther ahead in development though. But the windows version uses Outlook on the web scripts, so it is (mostly) identical to Outlook on the web.

    Hi Diane,

Thank you for the reply and the information. I am very much appreciative.

That sounds like a poor and limited design. I have been using Microsoft Outlook 97, since Windows 95 and I have used all versions since. Plus I have been using Outlook on the on OS X/macOS platform. I use a number of different laptops in a Home setting and I like to have full control over the updates, which I do while connected to power.

This is in addition a number of Enterprise Editions that I use in Corporate settings.

I use Outlook in this use case, against an Outlook.com/Microsoft Account setting. I have been using the New Outlook on the macOS platform for a long while and I think the implementation on that platform is a better implementation.

Can I ask for a little more information on how I would go about performing the update manually on Windows 11, through the Settings -> Apps process? I would prefer to stick to the manual method. I ask, as I don't see anything related to 'updating'. But this could because I have switched back to the Classic version?

From what I have seen this evening with my experimentation. I think I prefer New Outlook on the macOS operating system.

I think I will have a little play with the New Outlook for Windows. I normally use Outlook on the Web in an every day use case. So I can switch over to that, if need.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Have a great weekend!

    Kind regards,

    Neil

    Hello Neil

The new Outlook is a windows app and updated though Settings > apps - although it should be updated automatically. If it is open and an update is waiting there should be an arrow overlaying the taskbar icon - you need to restart it to install the update.

If you are using the new outlook for mail, you can check for office updates from any office app, not just Outlook.

Tip: if you want to keep switching between the two Outlook apps, pins the new app to the task bar, switch back and pin the old Outlook. You can use both at the same time.

    Hi Diane,

Thank you for the follow up information. I am very much appreciative.

I have just installed the New Outlook for Windows (Preview) on my old laptop, which just about runs Windows 10 22H2 and yes it is appears in the 'Library' in the Windows Store. I will have a play with it on this laptop and see what I make of it.

I switched off the Windows Store automatically downloading/updating Apps many years ago - as I prefer to implement a structured approach to configuration management on all of my devices. You may have noticed? I work in IT.

I have noticed that when I installed on it my Windows 11 laptop yesterday and set it to run as per System Settings (Dark Mode) - it has switched my Outlook on the Web to Dark Mode as well. Which I think is better to look at.

I switched the macOS version over to the New version last year. I think it works much better on that platform.

Once again, thank you for the information.

    Have a great weekend!

    Neil
