    Hello William

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

While this is definitely a type of email message sent out by Microsoft, there are also many phishing scams that look very, very realistic. You can't simply go by the <From> address because any spammer can easily "spoof" the <From> address to make it look like it comes from wherever they want.

The y to determine if it's a legitimate notice is to check the activity on your account using the following link to see if there are any matching details

    https://account.live.com/Activity

If there are no matching details, the email message is a phishing scam.

One word of advice is not to get lulled into believing all messages you get are phishing scams. It only takes ignoring one legitimate message for you to potentially end up in a whole world of hurt.
